I am a healthy 41 year old male that works our daily, 45 minutes of cardio daily, surfs, snowboards, wakeboards, rafts and etc. I eat right and am in great physical condition.
Started having pains in areas and long story short, got a bone density on my Lumbar and T score was - 3.2.
My PTH is 28, but calcium was at upper limit of 10.2. Could this still be HPTH as 10.2 is high normal and it could vary. The lower PTH of 28 though would seem to indicate not a problem or should my PTH be even lower than say 20s with a calcium that os 10.2 or upper limit of "normal." I have heard anything in the 10s may cause for concern or be suspect.
Any ideas on whether HPTH can present with a calcium around 10.2 and a lower PTH reading in the 20s. I was really hopeful that it was a parathyroid tumor. Should I have any more follow up tests or should I consult with the specialist in Tampa.
My Potassium was slightly elevated at 5.4. My T3 reverse is high and my T4 and T3 are all in upper range of limits. TSH was low mid range limit.
Testorone was very strong and we are waiting on IGF-1 now. I hope I can get this doctor to write HGH for me to rebuild bone, but she will only write if IGF-! comes back low or shows hormone deficiency. She will not write HGH for off label use. Any ideas where to get it for severe osteporosis for a 41 year old male.
There has to be a secondary cause somewhere, but the puzzle pieces are not linking up at this time. Any ideas. What else should I check.
I am lactose intolerant and had very poor milk or calcium intake for many years, but I did supplement with extensive supplements and eat well, although too much protein at times.
Scary in that I was bench pressing 250 + pounds, surfing huge waves and playing golf just prior to my diagnosis.

There are a few of us here waiting on a POSSIBLE diagnosis for hPTH. My calcium ranges between 10 and 10.3 with PTH of 27. The doctor is constantly rechecking the levels as she says when calcium is at the high end of normal, the PTH should be almost shut down (below 20). I have many of the other symptoms of hPTH as well but the doctor says no sestamibi scan yet. My ionized calcium was also high 1.35 (1.23-1.32) Have you had an ionized calcium test or a 24 hour urine calcium (I haven't had that yet). My T-score was still OK with the worst being in the spine at 0.5. It is a long process but I am sure others will respond as well. Welcome! Hoppy

996ttelise,
Welcome to the boards. I am another one that is waiting for a possible diagnosis of hyperparathyroid. I am going to an endo on June 10th.
My symtpoms all started with a rapid heart beat and acid reflux and then slowly over the past 15 months have developed many more. I too usually sit right at the 10.2 mark on serum calcium, but I have had spikes up to 11.0 twice and 10.9 once.
Do you have any other symptoms besides the osteo? Some people jump all around with their calcium levels, so you could be 10.2 today and much higher tomorrow.
Keep us updated and welcome to the boards.
