View Full Version : Protein Shakes, why 20 mins?

Hey everyone

Well, I'm physically active and hit the gym 3 times a week at least, and always take a protein shake (always with whey isolate, sometimes with maltodextrin or dextrose) within 30 mins of a restance training day. My only issue is, that the protein powders tend to say consume within 20 mins on the tub. My problem is that when I make the protein shake, get to the gym, workout and get back to the changing rooms, at least an hour and 15 mins has passed. So my question is, is this a serious quality issue? is it pointless taking the shake if I leave it so long before I drink it?

thanks :)

It has nothing do do with the quality of the protein. The assumption is that you're making the shake after your workout and you should have it within 20 minutes of your last rep. The quality of the protein won't significantly degrade in just an hour if you bring it with you. I wouldn't even worry about it. But if you are concerned, put the powder into an empty, dry shaker bottle and add the water after you're done.
