I have allergies and I have to wear a dust mask when house cleaning to prevent sore throat, sinus problems and the like, so I would say yes, dust can aggravate your throat.

Wind? That always gets me in the ears and throat, especially in winter. I get the sensation after I have been in the wind that my uvula is swollen and it is hard to swallow. Throat lozenges and sipping a lot of water seems to help.

When that happens to me, I am generally better by the next day. If not, then I know I have a potential allergy or virus.

Feel better soon!

Oh, my goodness, yes.

When we were in Kuwait and Iraq, we'd get caught up in these dust storms and we would all be hacking and coughing for days.

If it doesn't clear up within a couple of days after exposure (no more than three), it's allergies or a virus of some sort.
