I've used two different brands of coconut oil, and both have helped a lot. Right now I am using a supplement product called Coconut Oil Diet by Health Support. It is an organic extra virgin cold pressed unrefined coconut oil. I'd say it's more important to just take as unprocessed a product as possible that is extra virgin and organic.
I have been doing ozone treatments almost every day consistently for about two months now. I've been able to cut down the amount of coconut oil supplements I take to just 3 or less per day. I should definitely take at least 3 per day to avoid tingling, pain and to prevent the beginnings of a full OB from starting. I've sort of been experimenting to see if the ozone is working to stop the discomfort, but it's not completely helping, so I still need to take the coconut oil.
No, I don't believe I suffer from neuralgia. I would recommend others with constant discomfort (pain, tingling, soreness, redness, itching, etc) to take 3 pills at a time 3 times a day, preferably with food, but I don't think it seems to make a difference either way. For me I feel it working within 30 minutes. It's that effective for me! Of course, if you already have a sore forming, then only time can let that heal. I get tingling in the bottoms of my feet, and it puts a stop to that, too!
Hope that helps!
Thank you very much for your reply. Can you describe the ozone tx in more detail?
Where do you purchase your coconut oil? I live in a small town and the health store doesn't carry it. I'm very wary of online-purchasing, afraid of buying something contaminated.
What most concerns me is the neuralgia which for the past 2 weeks has been constant! I've had neuralgia on/off for a year, but lately I'm getting worse instead of better. I only knew it was herpes neuralgia when my test came back positive for hsv-2. I went to three doctors before a gyn-onco took me seriously and ran herpeselect. I had a herpes test in college, which was negative, but I don't know if they ran the IgG or IgM or some other test. My partners were tested--they were both negative. I think because my gyn knew the precautions I was taking, plus a visual exam revealed nothing, he didn't think about the herpes angle until now.
I can't tell you how shocked I was/am. My sexual history reads virgins, protected non-virgin (once), clean tests for the other two. I didn't just do the routine STD tests: they both specifically got herpeselect, hepatitis A,B,C, HIV, in addition to the other regular tests. Additionally I demanded to SEE the reports myself so there's no faking the results! I thought I was being sooooo careful. My friends call me neurotic, I know of NO ONE ELSE who bothers to get tested before engaging in intercourse yet *I* am the only one in my very large circle of acquaintances who has herpes. I am proof that unfortunately it CAN happen to anyone. I am having such a hard time with this.
I am pretty sure my most recent ex partner was a false negative because I only started having problems weeks/months after him but aren't false negatives on herpeselect EXCEEDINGLY rare? (I also got HPV from him.) The partner before that was almost three years before him. How likely is it that I've had this for three YEARS when I wasn't taking care of myself and it suddenly decided to surface when I paid great attention to my health and diet?! There's no ignoring the neuralgia. It's quite uncomfortable. It is definitely something I would have felt before and gone to the doctor about.
Do you really think the coconut will help? Do you have any laxative or other side effects? My neuralgia suddenly escalated and I'm worried it's now out of control. I have other neurological problems (unrelated to herpes) that I'm afraid it will exacerbate. I'm not having sex anymore, so I won't take antivirals--the (admittedly little) research I've done says it doesn't help your immune system fight back which is the best thing for all of us.
Can someone help me make sense of this? Thanks.

One more question for Oceanus regarding the coconut oil: it says it supplies caprylic acid, but no mention of monolauric acid, and isn't the latter what we need? Thanks.

Hi,
You can ask your health store to order the product I mentioned. They sometimes will do that. <removed>
If you did recently contract herpes it can take 3-6 months in some cases to show positive on a blood test. It took me 3 tests and 6 months post-exposure to finally have a positive blood test come back. So maybe you could suggest your ex to have another HerpeSelect test after 6 months. However, it can be possible to be a carrier for years with no noticeable symptoms. So you still haven't experienced any visual symptoms, only neuralgia? I would think if that is the case that you might have had herpes for longer than you think, without knowing it. Maybe you confused it with a yeast infection or razor burn, or a pimple. That is what sometimes happens. How long ago do you think you were infected by your most recent partner? Maybe what you think is neuralgia is actually typical prodrome symptoms that one normally experiences (tingling, burning, itching, etc). Sometimes symptoms vary from person to person and in severity and from OB to OB.
Yes, I think coconut oil supplements work. It works for me in a huge way! I wouldn't recommend it unless it worked for me. It may not work for everyone though. That's how herpes is, one thing may work for one person and not for another. When coconut oil is ingested the body transforms it into monolaurin, so the ingredients won't specifically say it contains it.
In regards to the ozone, I'd suggest reading my prior posts by doing a search in the box above with my name. I've written a lot on the subject. I've also mentioned other natural treatments I've tried with some or no effectiveness. It's very useful to read what others have tried and what they suggest works. That's how I decided to try ozone treatments.
Hope that helps!!

Thanks again Oceanus. I will ask the store to order it.
The reason I don't think I've had genital herpes type 2 for more than a year is because I'd have recognized (and gone to the doctor) about these symptoms. They are pretty bad and impossible to ignore. Near-constant aching, burning, redness, EXTREME sensitivity, now clitoral pain, fissure/papercut sensations, shooting nerve pain down limbs, buttocks (sometimes can't sit comfortably), feet, hands, and even armpits (is this even possible??!) and before that cervical/vaginal discharge, general irritation downstairs, itching, tenderness, pain. I never once experienced ANY of these problems before my last partner. I went through 26 years of my life with nary a yeast infection and these symptoms show up out of nowhere and get worse. Knock on wood, as of today I do not see any lesions and never have, so I know my presentation is very atypical but I know things are getting worse.
I persisted in going to the gyn. My gyn actually did not want to see me as a patient anymore because after many exams by himself and his NP, finding nothing visual (while I cringed from the pain during palpation) he thought it was psychosomatic or an allergic reaction to detergent (why are gyns so quick to suggest that)! It was a gyn-onco who finally ran a herpeselect which, to my complete shock, came up positive.
I believe I was infected a year, or just over a year ago. The only other exposures I could have had was 8 (now 9) years ago in college, or 3 (now 4) years ago, both protected encounters, the latter only twice! I know all it takes is one time but I'd like to think proper and consistent condom usage affords adequate protection. I do not know the HSV status of those two partners. The most recent partner, the one I think infected me, is HSV negative for both types at 8 MONTHS post last exposure with me. I know this is EXCEEDINGLY rare, but I really believe it's from him. I started having problems weeks after sex with him. My question is is it possible to continue to test negative for herpes and never show lesions (so he says) but actually be POSITIVE?
But WHY would my symptoms get worse not better? If I have had this for years without knowing (and testing negative in college!), wouldn't I now be better not worse as my immune system adapts? Why now, when I'm taking better care of myself than I ever have? Why not when I had two neurosurgeries and didn't/couldn't eat for a week? Why not when I had a bad reaction to pre-colonoscopy procedures and dropped almost 10 pounds in three days?
Does anyone else have any input? I can't sleep. I'm so lost and sad over this. I just want to know what happened. I thought I was so careful with testing. Worse, I may have infected a previously-negative partner. I really doubt it because he's had no problems, but he is getting tested now.
Does coconut oil work for visual symptoms only, or can it help with neuralgia? I already have neurological issues...and it's difficult to deal with as it's constant and quite painful.
Thanks.

Hi,
I am sorry to hear of your health problems. Since I myself have been through hell and back(maybe) with my health the last 3-4 years, though prior to that I was rarely sick, I can relate to how you must feel.
Some of your symptoms might be because of post herpetic neuralgia and herpes
can strike anytime even if it has laid low for many years before that.
You may have heard of neurontin for nerve pain relief . But I have read several accounts where cayenne pepper really helped with this type of pain.
Though I might be way off base here, maybe you could get tested for the other herpes viruses too. There are actually either 4 or 6 of them other than the well know type 1 and type 2. Some of these other herpes viruses might cause neurological symptoms so maybe you could read up about them online and see if any match your symptoms . And maybe your symptoms are being caused by a combination of pathogens : some bacterial fungal or viral . It has been known to happen. But the good news is that for the vast majority of bacterial and fungal stuff there is medicine to put an end to it for good.
Are you sure your last partner had the HerpesSelect tests done ?
cause the other herpes tests are not totally reliable. And you mentioned having had some colon/neuro surgeries in the past.....
maybe somehow this is playing into your herpes status. If you don't mind, what were your surgeries for, specifically ? (I am just asking as these might yield some pieces to the puzzle).
Look up herpetic neuralgia to see if it covers all your symptpms.
Well, this is all i knew that i thought could help. do look into the cayenne pepper for nerve pain.
Also, there are many herbs that have broad spectrum action against many pathogens. Olive leaf extract, oil of oregano etc are just two.
Echinacea, astralagus, vit c , selenium, mushroom immune support supplements are just some examples that can help boost your immune system and fight an infection.
Good luck !
Regards,
Oasis

It does sound like you're actually have continual outbreaks and not neuralgia. The first year of having type 2 herpes is the worst. I suffered greatly for over 1 year. If you are having papercut like cuts, these are visual symptoms that clearly show you are having outbreaks. Even tingling, pain, redness, itching, tenderness, etc. These are ALL symptoms of an outbreak. People experience different sensations. No two people are just alike. I get tingling in the bottoms of my feet and get worse symptoms at night, but not everyone else does.
I have always practiced safe sex with condom use partly because I can't use the birth control pill. Anyway, condoms will not always protect you from acquiring the virus. When someone is contagious if you have skin to skin contact with them anywhere in the boxer shorts area, you have a chance of getting herpes. Condoms only cover a small portion of that area. I know I got herpes from someone while using a condom. We only had sex ONCE, too! If it wasn't from him, which I very much believe it was, then it was from another partner whom I ALWAYS used a condom with as well.

Hello ladies,
Thanks again for your replies. Oceanus, I purchased the coconut oil by health support, thanks for the tip and I pray it works for me as the neuralgia is very bad. Oasis, I have been on reishi mushroom caps 1200mg daily for a few months now plus multivitamin and my diet is great. Could reishi actually be making things worse? My neuralgia seemed to spike and continue to get out of control since. Perhaps it's coincidence.
I'm sure my partners had the HerpeSelect done. I researched extensively on another site and knew how to read/interpret the results. I saw them for myself with my own eyes. Guess if I wasn't trusting enough to take their word for it I should never have done it.
The only other possibility is a protected exposure in 2004 (well actually two protected exposures). I only started showing symptoms in mid-2007, this time last year. I am sure if I had symptoms before I would've noticed. I've been very STD-paranoid my whole life and herpes was the one thing I really did not want to get.
Lately I've battled HPV and I'm sure I know who I contracted it from. I feel like a walking STD. I'm not married and feel like I'll never be now. I'm really sad after all these precautions I still stressed my immune system with these awful virii.
Oceanus, I thought things got better over time instead of worse? If I was exposed in 2004 and it's just now getting (A LOT) worse, what should I do reverse things? Should I get on Valtrex? I already have hair loss (female pattern baldness) which Valtrex can exacerbate. Even if I was exposed last year why am I feeling a lot worse now than before?
I didn't see any paper cuts ever nor did any of my doctors when I was in their offices complaining of pain, but I do have the paper cut sensation in the shower and urination.
Oasis. The irony is I had two cranial nerve neurosurgeries but no my neuralgia is definitely not from those. I had my second neurosurgery after my possible 2004 exposure but I truly feel that it was last year's exposure that did this, my complete absence of symptoms otherwise doesn't make sense. I was also pretty heavily medicated in my early 20s so I feel if I had herpes then all the meds I was on would have made it surface as my immune system wasn't at its best.
Sorry for the disorganization of this post.

There is generally a pattern of things getting better over time, over years. The first 1-2 years being the worst. But like I said before, the virus does not stick to definite pattens of behavior. It works differently in everyone's body, probably due to the immune system's ability to keep a handle on the virus and keep it in hiding. It would be a great idea if you read thru the posts on this site and see what other people's experiences have been. You will see that some people have mild outbreaks that do not occur often, and then bam, out of nowhere, years later, they have constant outbreaks. Something awoke the virus and now they must figure a way out of putting it back in check.
I have had continual symptoms almost daily for 2+ years, ever since I got the STD. Should I freak out because my body seems to be abnormal and can't stop the virus? Should I think I must be very sick, and immune impaired? I have thought these things and tried to change my diet and sleep more and take extra vitamins, but nothing has worked. I've always been a rather healthy person with no diseases, etc. I have read that some people's immune system's just do not recognize the virus as a foreign invader as much as other peoples'. So you could do EVERYTHING right in terms of health and nutrition and exercise and still be one of the unlucky ones who suffers greatly. I get lots of sleep and exercise and eat mostly healthy. Maybe it's because I am close to being a vegetarian and therefore eat those foods that trigger outbreaks like nuts and chocolate, whole wheat bread (high arginine). I have not bothered to alter my diet in that way because these foods they recommend to cut down on are actually healthy for you in general.
I too was unable to get a visual diagnosis from a health practitioner for the first about 3 visits and 3 blood tests. I felt raw, red and sore, but they didn't notice anything visually. It is still difficult to see if I have any sores because I get very tiny ones and only 1 or 2. To know if you have a cut/open sore I recommend pouring hydrogen peroxide on the sore areas and see if they turn white and bubble (like what happens when you pour H2O2 onto cuts of any kind). If it turns white then you know there is an open sore. This is the method I've used because it's hard to look at yourself down yonder, especially when one gets tiny sores. If the H2O2 burns on your skin that's another indicator that you have a sore and are having an OB.
Even without a sore, you can still be having an OB and be contagious. Being red, raw, burning, itching ARE symptoms of an OB!
Some people go without noticeable symptoms (only having mild yeast-like or jock-itch like symptoms) for a long time, even years, and then bam, they get their FIRST big outbreak...this is called a primary outbreak and these are the worst. You should look up that phrase and read up on it: PRIMARY OUTBREAK.
People who have type 1 genital herpes are not going to suffer as badly as those of us with type 2, so read closely and do not try to compare yourself with those with type 1 genital. They will usually have 1 outbreak per year and then fewer after that and then possibly stop getting OBs altogether or just very mild one's far and few between.
I only used Acyclovir a little during my first year. I then decided to try and rid myself the natural way and in so doing I've suffered a lot of pain. However, if I choose to mask the symptoms with prescription meds then I have no way of knowing if the natural remedies I am using are actually working or not. Since I have suffered pain daily, if a natural remedy works, my body will immediately let me know. Some people can't honestly know if something is working for them or not if they are 1) taking suppressive meds or 2) only get OBs infrequently. So personally I avoid ALL prescription meds as I also have a chip on my shoulder against pharm companies because I honestly believe they should have a CURE by now and choose instead to just create drugs that we have to take DAILY FOREVER, so they'll keep getting richer at our expense. But that's just what I think.
The OZONE THERAPY and COCONUT OIL pills have worked the best for me and I am finally doing A LOT better in general. I would also recommend you could try COLLOIDAL SILVER and garlic helps the immune system, and oil of oregano too! I think I had some good experience with colloidal silver, but stopped taking it because the bottle recommends only to take it for 10 days at a time. I do not know how much time I should wait between taking it again. Make sure you get a TRUE colloidal though. This is the name of a brand that is a true colloidal silver: Source Naturals, Wellness Colloidal Silver. Some people take it everyday for years, but I feel there must be a reason they write that 10 days only on the bottle. You should experiment and try different things to see what your body responds best to.
For your pain and discomfort you could try taking a bath and pouring 35% food grade hydrogen peroxide in and bathing for 30 minutes in it. It helped me a lot when I used to get large outbreaks on my buttocks and tingling in my feet and legs. It would stop the discomfort soon afterwards, but I would still do it almost daily while I was trying to fight off a large OB. Once is not enough! If you don't have food grade H2O2 you can also use regular H2O2, but just use more of it. You can feel it doing something as you are soaking. I would also put the H2O2 into a spray bottle of water and spray it onto my lower back where the virus hides (bottom of spinal cord) every day first thing in the morning. I no longer have to do these things because I no longer suffer from large, painful outbreaks since doing the ozone and coconut oil supplements every day! :-) The sooner you combat this virus after acquiring it the better.
Good luck...and
Hope that helps!
Hey Oceanus,
I've been taking the Health Support CO 6 tabs a day for two weeks. I'm having diarrhea/loose stools (which I expected, as my digestive system is very sensitive and CO is also a laxative) but my herpes sensations are the same, if anything worse. Is there any hope that? I don't want to go on Valtrex if it's not necessary, but you said to combat the virus as soon as it's acquired. It's been at least a year and a half, if not more, since that occurred. Well, in trying different things (including Tagamet) nothing has made even a slight dent in my neuropathy or sensitive/raw feelings or burning. If CO hasn't worked for me in the initial two weeks, will it not work later? Does it take time to build a "preventive" effect? Is it too late to keep it in check?
Can I buy food grade peroxide at the grocery store or do I have to get it at the pharmacy? Do you recommend spraying undiluted peroxide or diluter and if so how much? Base of the spine area, right? I may just spray my entire boxer shorts region if it's safe to do so.
Thanks again.

Hi brieaukirsch,
I'm sorry to hear the coconut oil has not been helping you thus far. I actually cannot remember how long it took for it to help me. I do think the longer I took it the stronger the effect seemed to be. I did not realize coconut is a laxative. It has never had that effect on me, that I've noticed. Do you take 3 supps in the a.m. then another 3 with lunch and then another 3 in the evening? That is what I recommend because the supps need to be spaced out to keep working.
It's not too late to get the virus in check. It's never too late. I just recommended that the earlier the better so as to prevent the virus from getting a foot hold and replicating to a great deal. I didn't realize you've had it that long.
You can't buy food grade H2O2 from a regular pharmacy. I got mine from a local health food store, but you can also buy it online. I have heard some people had success from drinking the food grade type. If you spray it on your outbreak areas and base of spine, or bathe in it, or ingest it, make sure it's WELL DILUTED! I have a 12% food grade H2O2 in my fridge right now. Make sure to keep it refridgerated.
I would recommend if you spray it by mixing it with water in a water bottle that 1) the bottle is not clear (H2O2 can't have light on it) and 2) start off milder by diluting it well as it does sting, especially on sores. Experiment a little about how much you can handle. Be ware, if you spray it on your hoohoo it well bleach the hair and your clothes, so be careful.
There are online recommendations I've read about ingesting H2O2 food grade for treating herpes. Try looking up posts by user "Nonexist" on this site. He says it stopped him from having OBs completely for years, and still counting. He explained his protocol. It went something like starting off with 2 drops in distilled water (I doubt I'd do the distilled water myself, just filtered) twice a day on an empty stomach and increasing by one drop every day until you get to 30 drops at a time, stay there until OBs stop, then start decreasing that number everyday again by one drop per day.
I wouldn't give up on the extra virgin coconut oil supps quite yet. Maybe your going thru a healthy cleansing with the diarrhea. Just make sure to drink extra water to maintain hydration.
I'm surprised the Tagamet didn't help you at all either. It helped me, but I had to take like 2-3 tabs at a time at least twice a day. I once posted on this topic. You can look up my user name and Tagamet and see what I wrote about how to take it. You have to take larger doses than the package says. It also says don't take for longer than like 2 weeks at a time. Since I too had constant OBs this didn't seem like the cure-all I was looking for since I'd have to take it indefinitely. I felt that it could cause some damage to me if I took it longer than the package recommended. The coconut oil seemed to work just as well.
You could also try Neem seed. I have written dosing info on this supplement on this site as well. I had to take about 8 tabs twice a day to feel results, but it too did help me. Try doing a key word search on this and other sites. I switched from Tagamet, to Neem to coconut oil. I switched from Neem to Coco because I didn't need to take as many tabs per day of it compared to the Neem to keep symptoms at bay. Those are the things I found helped me the best...and the colloidal silver. I once didn't have ANY symptoms for a whole TWO weeks with CS. But like I said, the bottle said to not take it for longer than 10 days at a time. It is supposedly a natural antibiotic. Oh yeah, I think it aggravated my yeast problem because it kills off good and bad bacteria in your body. That might have been another reason why I didn't continue taking that remedy.
Please keep me and everyone posted on your progress....
Hope that helps!

Oceanus, I really appreciate your taking the time to spell this all out for me. My herpes symptoms are OUT OF CONTROL. I've been doing a lot of thinking about why I'd feel this way either 4 years or 9 years after exposure (I'd like to believe that my most recent partner is not lying about testing negative), and I believe that my immune system kept the herpes in check UNTIL I was also infected with hrHPV (probably multiple strains). Anyway, it doesn't help me, but I think I have to get rid of the HPV first and perhaps my body can resume its keeping HSV latent the way it has for years.
The neuralgia is UNBEARABLE. Lightning shocks all over my body and flu symptoms 24/7 (literally). I can't sleep well and absolutely DREAD waking up. I don't have any support and am afraid to tell anyone. I recently started seeing a very wonderful man who is not afraid of herpes (in fact he thinks he has it too as he was in a LTR with a HSV-2+ woman, but has always been asymptomatic) just as my symptoms get out of control.
From what I understand, ozone therapy via vaginal insufflation or rectal needs to be administered by a health care professional. It's not legal where I live (Florida) so that's not an option for me.
I've been doing the H2O2 but as I can't find an opaque bottle, therefore I've been putting 3% on a cotton ball and rubbing it against my spine and applying it to my sore spots on my vulva. Or is that completely useless? Since doing it this way the H2O2 DOES come into contact with light.
I've been diligently taking the coconut oil and I am so much worse. I doubt the CO is making me worse though. In desperation I also tried a few doses of Valtrex which gave me EXPLOSIVE diarrhea without helping my neuralgia or pain one bit and now I feel worse than ever. I read that resistance to Valtrex is extremely rare...and that if you are resistant it suggests HIV infection or some other immunocompromised state? I REALLY don't think I have HIV but I don't know for sure.
This morning I woke up to not being able to do kegels or sit or walk. My clitoris feels like it's been jammed in a zipper but I can't see a sore or blister or even redness. This is AGONY. I can't live or work like this.
I was afraid to come back on here and post and scare people because it seems my case is so severe and atypical. Is there ANY chance I can get this under control again? Btw, I'm one month on the CO and just started OOO p73 yesterday, 3 drops 3-4 times daily and YES it burns.
Have you tried castor oil packs?

Hi Oceanus,
A while back I read that you tried the Ambrotose advanced, how did that end up working for you? And what treatments are you taking now and find to be the most effective for you?
