Hello... I'm new to this site and, well, new to herpes. I haven't been diagnosed yet, but I have a new partner, every symptom, and my doc is farily certain that's what it is. I just got tested three days ago and am waiting for my results. In the meantime, I've been reading every single thing available about herpes. This site has been the best person-to-person site that I have found. It's great to see all of the compassion that everyone on here has for everyone one else. I know that this is somewhere I will be visiting often for advice, friendship, and encouragement.

The past week has been a mix of depression and loneliness, but it is so great to see all of you here. In fact, I have a smile on my face as I type this. Thanks for putting it there.

Hi MsLiz,

Welcome to the board. It might help to read some of the archived posts here, as you will find you're not alone in how you feel! It's common to feel alone and scared and depressed when you are first diagnosed. Try not to let it get you down. You're still the same wonderful person you were before you got it. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif It will take a bit of time to get used to living with it. How has this affected your new relationship? Keep us posted how you're doing.

Finally, after three weeks, my results came back. Positive for HSV-1 and negative for HSV-2. It was a swab test; I didn't have a blood test. To be honest, the three week waiting period was kinda like the Brady Bill of STD testing. I think that it was good for me because I had a lot of time to sit back, think, and really accept that this was what I probably have.

The man I have been with for the past 2-3 months (and the one who probably gave it to me) told me that when he was young he used to have cold sores on his mouth. He has never had anything on his genitals, though, so I'm assuming that's the way it was transmitted. The strange part is that he has accepted the whole thing rather well, which makes me think that he knew more than he is letting on. But, it's stupid to speculate. Especially since he really seems to love me, I really love him, and -- after all -- he has taken this REALLY WELL.

My outbreak seems to have totally cleared up now, although every itch or strange feeling I'm getting down there freaks me out. I know that I'm not supposed to get freaked out because that's what brings them on, but...

Any advice on how to best deal with these first few weeks, months would be great. Also, my doctor told me to call her and she would give me meds if I had another OB. Anything else that I should be taking / looking out for?

Thank you everybody!
