I don't know how to ask the doctor this. I haven't taken her because I haven't figured out how to put it to him.
My daughter is 4 1/2 yr's old she is always sleep as she says she isn't as active as the other kids her age but she will play with them. At the park she will play and slide and swing. We don't go too often so it isn't because she is too active or worn out. We could do a few errands and she is wiped. She goes to school 4 days a week about 2 hrs a day.
She used to nap every day but lately it has been every other or so. But the past 2 days she has taken a nap each day like before.
When she sleeps, she sleeps. She will sleep at least 2-20 hrs at a time.
A few times she fell asleep at 3:30 in the after noon and didn't wake up until 7am the next morning. Usually she takes about 3-4 hr naps and sleeps all night even after those naps.
For example yesterday she took a nap at 3pm and woke up at 7pm.
And went to bed at 9pm. And woke up at 7am.
And all day long everyday she complains she is tired.

This just does not make sense to me. I have an 8 yr old daughter also and she is the opposite she does not like to sleep.
She also has not had any recent illness' either.

Any thoughts?
Thanks

I don't know of any condition that makes children sleep more (other than SAD) but then I am not a doctor.

What I would say though is print off what you have wrote down and take that along to the doctors with you. As a mom we have an inbred sensor that tells us when there is something not right with our children. It sounds as though your alarm bells are ringing so go to the doctor and tell him what you have told us.

hope all goes well, let us know what is said.

THank you. I keep thinking she will probably just get over it. But it just keeps continueing. I think I will take your advice. And print it off. I know if I just go there with nothing I will not know what to really say.

the only thing i've ever heard of that causes that much fatigue would be mono, but that usually presents with a bit of fever and sore throat, plus swollen glands.... has she had anything like that in the last month or so???

i would definitely go to the doctor about it! let us know what happens!

Maybe she is toxic, in other words her body does not process chemicals well, they are in all our foods, soaps, lotions, etc. She could be deficient in vitamins and minerals too......? Worth checking out.

She does have celiac disease and is on a strict gluten free diet. She does take omega 3.6.9 each day in her juice. She hasen't had any incidents because she would violently vomit. But the sleepiness has been ongoing for quite some time now. She has been complaining about being tired alot for about a year now. Maybe she has some type of a sleep disorder. I am at a loss.
Even on the gluten free diet she still has major constipation or some type of blockage issues which I have to talk to her gastro about. She is still on miralax every other day or she cannot have a bm and she will get the very distended abdomen and had to have an enema twice in the past (very last resort) tried everything before that but really weird is that when she did go when most kids go usually it takes about a minute or so it took her about 15 minutes and it usually is in log form. Hers are always like bricks (square formed when she hasn't gone in a few days. Very painful looking. I do use organic shampoos and soap on her because she does have fair and sensitive skin It does help so I am greatful for that. She is a mystery to me.
Thanks for all the great info. I will probably call them today, and make the appt.

I also asked the dr a while ago about lupus but she said probably not I think because of her age but she does have a positive ANA a few times of
1:640
the normal range for their lab is < 1:40
she also has alot of the other symptoms too but we'll see in the future.

Your daughter could be anemic.

It is not normal for a child to sleep that much and be that tired.

Being Celiac may cause nutrition deficiency.

If her current doctor is not interested in finding out the real cause, then, see a specialist. A year is too long to let a child go with a problem.

She may not be eating enough carboyhydrates since gluten is in just about all of most kids favorite foods, pasta, pizza, cookies, cereals, breads, etc. ANd I do agree with the other poster that it could be nutritional defiecieny. Carbs are your bodys gasoline, they give you energy. PLease discuss this issue with the doctor as you don't want your child missing out on childhood if it is something that coudl be corrected easily.
