It's rarely possible at that age that it would happen, but I'm not a doctor. My only suggestion would be to get several opinions from different doctors. Hope you find the answers you're looking for.

Depression doesn't cause alzheimers nor any other of the dementias. However, symptoms of depression can mimic various forms of dementia.

I believe your sister needs a full medication review, mental health assessment and a full physical exam to exclude any other factors that can influence our brains behaviour such as low thyroid function, anaemia, diabetes, exhaustion etc etc.

There is an "early Onset" form of dementia that has been known to be in your sisters age range, but they are rare.

Get a good doctor who is willing to listen and work with you both to get the CORRECT answers.

Goodluck.

Dear Luz,

Depression may be causing her to act like an Alzheimer victim, but it is most unlikely that she has AD. If she is taking anti depressant drugs, her symptoms may be a side effect of those. It is very important that she see a doctor who understands Dementia. I hope this is something temporary!

Love,

Martha
