View Full Version : What is wrong with me?

36 yo female.
On May 4th I started having BM's 8 X's a day, watery and banana yellow playdough type. I used Pepto for 2 days which turned the BM's to Black but slowed them down. I stopped Pepto and used Imodium for 4 days which slowed them down to 6X's then I went to my Family Dr. Who prescribed Chlorestrum a bulking agent for people with high cholesterol but it has the constipation side affects.

(somewhere in these 6 days our pet rabbit died of an infection and I was using her manure for composting material - this complicates matters but I was checked for bacteria and nothing came of this)

2 weeks later, 3 visits to my Family Dr and I ended up in the Emerg with 1/3 loss of blood due to dehydration and a fast heart beat. I'm only 36 and I have 2 kids to look after as the hubby goes to work.

I was put on an I.V. Drip, Glucose, Potasium, Cipro and LOTS of Gravol. I was cold, exhausted, frustrated and emotional. I was in the ER for 1 day, cronic care for 2 and an isolation general care for 3 days. I slowly got better.
I wasn't allowed to eat or drink in the ER which caused massive hunger pains and a little emotion (You would cry too if you hadn't eaten and retained calories for 3 weeks - I've lost 10 pounds and have a new wrinkle in my belly button.)

They sent me home on May 24 Long weekend, without any antibiotics and the names of 2 DR's I could call if the symptoms reappeared. They did and I called. I went to the GI appointment and nearly passed out and he had his receptionist drive me to the nearby ER. Again I was dehydrated but there were 18 people ahead of me and no chance of seeing a DR in an 8 hour time span. I went home, curled up in bed, drank gastriolite and prayed for this to be over. I was also was given a persription for Flagyl by the GI. The symptoms seem to disappear after 7 days. I went back for a colonoscopy and no crohn's, no colitis, no c. diff.

The GI says it's a virus and it will probably come back. OMG! Which it did this morning 5 BM's from 6:30 - 9:30. Then I got cold, nauseous, and tired. It seems to hit worst in the morning. I eat bread, drink milk and have never in my life had a problem with either of these. Nor does anyone in my family. Nobody has Crohn's or Colitis. I would swear its a parasite eating my food during the night and expelling in the morning.

The mornings are the WORST! BM after BM. Cold hands, cold feet, slight hunger but it disappears into nausea before I can feed myself. So I force myself to eat yogurt, oatmeal and a banana. Then I have a nap and start to feel better. By 11 I'm perking up and generally don't have any more Bm's for the day.

What the heck is this???:(

Have you stayed in contact with the GI doctor? They haven't found anything?
Not sure why a virus would come back after the intial time?
I hope u get better, keep after those doctors till u get answers!

I called my GI but he's on duty at the hospital. So I headed back to my Family Dr. She explained that I had a very bad stomach virus, it would take awhile to get back to normal and gave me anti-anxiety meds. She said I was having anxiety attacks in my sleep in the morning because I was afraid I was going to end up in the hospital again.

So my family and I came up with a plan. I take a package of Chlorestreyme (like metamusil) before bed to bind me up, I wake up at 2:30 am and eat a banana and drink milk. At 5:30 - 6 am I do my BM or 2, take an anxiety pill and have some cereal or yogurt. This method seems to be working as I've only had 2 bm's for 2 days. Down from 5 - 8 Bm's a day.

We shall see.
