Since last Wednesday my stool has been coming out green. It also is coming out less often. For the first 3 days I had no bowel movents. I've been taking laxatives and digestive enzymes to try and speed things up. Instead of stool lots of gas is coming out. This gas also has the worst odor in the world. I also have been feeling drowsy and cannot perform my usual daily running. My resting heart rate also increased from 40 BPM to 55 PBM.
From what I read at different websites it sounds like I might have a bowel infection. How do you treat a bowel infection? Should I do a colon cleanse?

jwh1,
I think you need to see a Doctor to treat whatever you have. Intestinal infections are usually treated with antibiotics and particular diverticulitis.
If 40 is your normal pulse rate that is low.

Hi Harry,
It has improved slightly over the last 2 days. It's no longer green and I'm not as drowsy as before. I also never had any stomach pain. There's still lots of bad smelling gas coming out. My heart rate is also higher than normal. Can eating too much protein cause this? I ate a few chicken breasts at a barbeque 2 nights before this started.
My heart rate is lower than normal because I'm a runner. I run 1 or 2 marathons per year.

jwh1,
OK -- that explains the low heart rate.
A green stool usually means that your gallbladder is putting out too much bile and yes it can be caused by eating too much protein or fatty foods.
Eating green veeggies will help the stool odor as well as eating yogurt that has added culture strains -- like Stonyfield Farm yogurt -- and Kefir also helps get the intestinal friendly bacteria back to normal.
I wish you well---Harry
