hey guys,

Im new to this, and i just was looking for some advise. last week, i had sex with my girlfriend and i didnt use protection. the very next day, i had intense itching around the head of my penis and foreskin. this was then followed by redness in preceeding days. after about 4 days, a rash developed with little red spots. thi rash has continued to get worse, with it spreadind over the head of my penis, and some of the red spots gettin bigger. there is no pain, just a lot of irritation.im really worried, could this posibly be herpes? I recently got my std reults left, and i was given a clean bill of health- but i wasnt tested for herpes. help?

Hi Pugsly,

Your symptoms don't sound inconsistent with herpes, so I wouldn't rule it out. I'd suggest you get in to see your doc right away and get him/her to take a look at it while the symptoms are still clearly there.

You might also get your gf to get a type-specific blood test to see if anything shows up for her. It's possible to have genital herpes with no symptoms and therefore not know you have it, yet still be able to pass it on. A blood test will show what she has. You might get this for yourself too, so that you know what you have now. If you just caught something, you will be able to confirm it a few months down the road with another blood test.

Sorry, I know this is confusing but it can take up to 4+ months for the blood tests to show positive (if you have herpes). Don't be surprised if either of you tests positive for HSV-1, which is what causes oral cold sores in almost all cases.

Let us know what you find out when you've seen the doctor. It might be something else and the doc could give you a treatment and you'll be fine. Best to find out than to worry about it. Keep us posted! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
