Ive heard some people have tyroids its something you're born with and you can eighter gain alot of weight and be obese forever or eat and never get fat, i started gaining weight when i was 12 when i got my period since then ive been big i am now 19 and weigh 242 pds. i cant control my bad habits of eating junk now im not talking about eating fast food because i never eat fast food i always eat at home. I am considering on controlling myself starting now. i dont think i have that disease, and most likely wont find out,my mom applied me for medical but didnt i didnt get accepted i havent seen a doctor for too long and need too, my concern is my weight and dont want to risk my life or get any bigger, i have no idea what to do. Im really concerned about myself and stressing over it is my weakness because i eat to feel better, ANY ADVICE YOU CAN GIVE ME ID APPRECIATE IT

If you are referring to a hypo-active thyroid you need to have a blood test to determine this. I have it and didn't even know until it was revealed in a routine blood test. Now I take meds to control my levels.

It isn't easy to lose weight and keep it off if you eat for emotional reasons, as I have struggled with that myself. I have done pretty well, have mostly kept off the weight I lost, and when I start the bad habits again I don't let it go on for too long before I get back on track.

I eat fruits and vegetables, lean meat, and not too much in the way of starches, especially white, refined ones. I drink skim milk and eat yogurt, and take vitamins. I pour a tiny bit of juice in my water to flavor it, or drink it plain. I take vitamins and exercise 30-40 minutes every day. It works! I lost 55 lbs. and I DO have thyroid problems, but that's pretty well controlled with synthetic thyroid hormone for more than 10 years now. I burn a lot less calories than I used to, that's for sure.

I'm normal weight now and grateful. It's well worth the effort to keep it off, as it sure helped my self-esteem.

Good luck!! You can do it and enjoy many many years of your best appearance possible ;) Oh, and I draw, paint, take walks when I'm bored or sad, or just live thru it and wait for the sadness to pass
