Just thought I'd update and start a new thread for us.
My current status- Burning red scrotum and penis. A tingling feeling that comes and goes. Constant moistness. Sometimes more sometimes less. Walking/running makes everything worse. Folliculitis on my arms, chest and back that won't go away and is very very oily. Penis and scrotum skin very very thin. Masturbation for too long breaks the skin.
How it started-
Had sex. Then- Bumps on shaft and tingling on scrotum. Then skin on penis became just weird. like there was some sort of fluid deep in there. That went away quickly. Then Burning on scrotum and penis. then head of penis skin flaked off. Then the burning progressed.
I've been tested for: Herpes 1 & 2, HIV, Syphilis, Gonorrhea, and Chlamydia. all negative.
I've done every anti-fungal. pills and creams.
creams- hydrocortisones, steroids, antibiotic etc
pills- doxycycline, cephalexin, Azithromycin, Valtrex
and laser treatment- which did quell the burning, but it's still there.
Any suggestions are welcome. I'm not sure what to try next, aside from curling up into a ball and wondering how I could be so stupid.

I'm currently using Zonalon cream in the morning, Vaseline at night (or when the itching/burning/tingling gets bad), and have recently started taking Naltrexone. Feeling better, although still not great yet.
I hadn't heard of Naltrexone before, but the dermatologist said a drug for helping people get over alcoholism. It makes you really sick if you drink alcohol, but it was discovered to reduce itching in some clinical trials. I don't drink alcohol, so I haven't seen any negative effects. I'm not sure how long it will take to work (or if it will work).
The Zonalon cream seems to be causing additional redness and burning. It almost seems to be irritating the scrotum. I'm thinking about stopping it and just trying Vaseline and Naltrexone for awhile.
I'll post an update as to how I'm doing. I'm pretty sure this is a form of Psoriasis, unfortunately, so temporary control might be as much as I can hope for.

Hi to the newcomers and the guys who have followed this thread since day one,
Just a quick update on my last post.
I have seen number 2 dermo who has diagnosed lichen simplex (as described by so many others on here)
He was a sympathetic doc who gave me the full once over and listened intently to my concerns.
As i said in previous post, GOLD SPOT alleviates the symptoms as it contains menthol but doesnt get rid of it. My dermo has prescribed a really mild 25mg anti depressant to turn the itch off and a tub of DERMACOOL which contains menthol. I must say its early days yet and i dont think the tablets have kicked in, but the dermacool is like putting my tackle in a block of ice. not only does it moisturise but also soothes the itch.
Only time will tell if i am cured lol.

Ok...Continue from Chronic Red Burning Scrotum Thread 3.
I have the same problem like you guys described (for more than 10 years), and I have been through more than 10 Dermatology Doctors, 100 medicines> Doctor cut a piece of skin and do the lab test twice (3 years apart). The test results tell me that I have LSC (LICHEN SIMPLEX CHRONICUS), my Doc also call Fungal, yeast etc...
I bought almost every anti Fungal, yeast medicine treatment in Longdrugs, Wallgreens, Target drug store etc.. I also searched the Internet and bought any thing that people in forums suggested but none of them works...
Two weeks ago, I got the name of this medicine from one of the post in this thread.
http://www.healthboards.com/boards/showthread.php?p=3509731&highlight=Metro nidazole#post3509731
I asked my doctor for this prescription drug. The problem went away on the 10th day of this drug. I still have one more day on this antibiotic drug. I feel so release and hope this itch goes away forever..
Here is the drug:
-Metronidazole 500MG Tablets (2 tablets a day for 14 days).
This cost around $29.00 (USD)
Note: The 1st 7 days of this drug I feel normal but for the last few days I few so sleepy. However, I feel so good because my itch is gone.
You can search for flagyl (Metronidazole is generic drug of Flagyl).
I also bought Fagyl Metronidazole Cream, but I have not try since my problem went away.
Please comeback and tell us your treatment.
Thank you so much for sharing your treatment, with your information that might cure my scrotum itch forever.
Sorry for my English, I hope you understand what I am trying to say.

Does anyone else hear your skin crackle and get intense burning when you spray Tinactin Jock Itch spray on your scrotum? I've found that if I use the spray for like a week, the burning/crackling from the spray actually lessens day by day. RSS Symptoms flare down whenever I do this, but I kinda think it's the cold propellant in the can that's gradually soothing the skin, not the tolnaftate... because I've put all sorts of anti-fungal powders on the area before to no effect. Any thoughts on this?
I actually called Tinactin's comments line and the person I talked to never heard anything about crackling noises. Has anyone else experienced this? There's no crackling when I spray it on other parts of my body, what do you think it means?

Hi! I have had this condition for about six months and it is driving me crazy. I have tried absolutely everything over the counter for fungus/yeast and nothing works. However, I started applying Aloe Vera Gel (with Lidacaine and Menthol) a few weeks ago and that has helped a lot with the itching. My plan now is to call my doctor and try to get some Metronidazole (Flagyl) because it sounds like someone had success with that.

Larry - I've tried Tinactin before. Back when this first started, I thought it was a fungal infection since I also had athlete's foot. The Tinactin DID burn and crackle when used on my scrotum. The burning was incredibly painful for about 10 minutes, but then there was little tingling/itching of the scrotum for about 12 hours. After about a year, however, the Tinactin stopped working (although it still burns when applied). My feet, on the other hand, stopped itching and I'm very careful (sandals in the shower, no bare feet ever) so that they won't start again.
The oral 50MG daily of Naltrexone does not appear to be working at all for me (and this is after about 3 weeks of using it). I have another dermatologist appointment a week from Thursday. I think I'll ask about Flagyl (Metronidazole) and Doxycycline. I know Uptownnotown did not have success with Doxycycline, but I found a recent medical report that suggests it has worked for others:

I also think you should be aware of the next, I found it doing some reaearch on Flgyl:

Hi,
I called my doctor to get Metronidazole pills last week and he prescribed them right away. However, when I picked up the prescription it was the cream instead. So I was dissapointed about that but started using the cream. IT IS WORKING. My redness is fading away and it almost doesn't itch anymore (after a week of applying it). I put the Metronidazole cream on first and then Aloe Vera Gel (with Lidacaine and Menthol) about ten minutes later. I decided to keep using the Aloe Vera Gel since it helps with the itching (and for some reason I think it has a positive effect as well). I apply both morning and night. If it doesn't go completely away with the cream I am getting the pills. I will let you know if it goes completely away. Thank you!

Hey everyone...been reading through the old closed thread as well as this one and feel the pain along with everyone. Im not gonna give you my long list of symptoms and doctors , etc etc that i went too. Just suffice it to say I've done it all and I think I may have something you all may want to look into.
Neem Oil
There are many places to purchase this online, I personally went with organix south as it seemed it was of a high quality. From my research Ive found that Neem Oil is powerfully anti fungal, anti bacterial, kills all sorts of parasites and mites, acne and the list goes on it is generally known as a wonder drug in Ayurvedic medicine.
After a 6 month period of crazy happenings with my skin in the groin region and being treated for everything from scabies to folliculitis and a recently coming down with a sudden peeling and bright red scrotum I ordered a bottle of Neem Oil which I have been using Friday night and results so far are amazing. Redness drastically reduced within 8 hours, general uncomfortable feeling has subsided and my scrotum looks 80% better and its been less than 48hrs since I began use
Do your research, but Id say its worth a shot.

Just to catch up.
I am still doing well with just Vaseline. I have to apply thick coat on at least once a week. The redness comes back if I go four or more days without applying a coat of Vaseline. My symptoms were red painful scrotum that would get very tight and sting bad. I rarely if ever itched. I never had any scales or dryness. Sugar still seems to play a part. I notice a huge difference if I consume sugar in any form. I do best when I stick to a fruit and vegetable diet.

uptown, Ive been having unprotected sex with my girlfriend all throughout my ordeal. We've both been tested negative for all STD's and she has not had any symptoms or dealt of the problems i have these past months. This bright red and peeling scrotum however was not following sexual intercourse and i dont think it was related, although after reading all these posts i am making a habit of rinsing off immediately following sex.
To go into a bit more detail, i believe i did have scabies which was grossly misdiagnosed many times and finally treated successfully....but i continually had some strange bumps, itching, etc that the doctors dismissed because, well...thats what they do. Anyhow about a week a go I had discomfort that i noticed in my scrotum during work. When i got home, i noticed my scrotum was peeling and bright red. By the next morning it was even worse and you could see a distinct line between where the peeling had stopped and was bright red and the normal skin color of brown/tan. I then applied some lotion and aloe vera which did nothing. After about another day i did some research and found this board and to make a longer story short I began to use the Neem Oil.
An update to my condition: Its been a week and i am probably 98% back to normal...i only used the neem oil for about 3-4 days by applying the oil directly to my scrotum before bed and in the morning after i showered. I truly do not know what caused my condition....i dont claim that it is the same thing everyone else here has. I just thought Id mention this Neem Oil that I found through my research as its a natural option that seems worth a shot. I also forgot to mention in my previous post that much of my research also states that Neem Oil is used in the east to treat many forms of eczema and skin disorders.
Hope this helps, good luck

I had another dermatologist appointment yesterday. I said that the Naltrexone does not appear to have any effect, and I've had to quit using the Doxepin cream because of the horrible burning it causes.
I asked about Metronidazole and Doxycycline but she didn't think they would work since she doubted the problem was bacteria since I've had it for years. Also, she wouldn't prescribe the Metronidazole since she had not read about it working in a medical report. :(
She instead prescribed Prozac, saying that the scrotal tingling/burning could be a neurological problem. I don't really want to take an anti-depressent, but I also don't want to continue having this problem forever. All-in-all, not a good visit. I'm not sure if I'll get the Prozac filled... any advice guys?

Try to see if your local university has a phsych derm clinic.
Their are a lot of possibilities for anti depressants that won't make you feel dizzy or cause other problems. This problem definitely has an anxiety component to it. I can now go for weeks without any problems but if I get depressed it starts to tingle and I will apply a coat of Vaseline in the area.
I went swimming in a pool and the chlorine made it burn bad. I put a thick coat on and in the morning it was gone.
I have tried other products but learned that a lot of products don't work at all on that skin and in some cases make it worse.
One of the scripts I was given by a brainless doctor, can't be used on sensitive skin. I was using it every day. He said it will clear it right up.
I apply a very small amount on one spot and see if it reacts. Then I know if I can use it.
None of the products affected any other part of my body.

willy8512 - What anti-depressant did the dermatologist prescribe for you? I'm done with college now, so it's a several hour trip to any dermatologist which is very inconvenient. I don't know of any psych derm clinics anywhere near where I live.
At my last visit, the dermatologist wanted to prescribe a tricyclic anti-depressant called Doxepin. I'd had bad experiences with the Zonalon cream that contains Doxepin, however, plus it made me drowsy. So she prescribed Prozac instead. She said that in the medical reports, after people had stopped taking the anti-depressant the itching/burning returned. I don't want to have to take anti-depressants the rest of my life. Were you able to stop taking the anti-depressant?

I haven't been to the psych derm clinic yet. I wanted to get life insurance before I started taking any drug that would increase the cost.
For the most part I have been able to control the irritation on the scrotum with Vaseline. But the problem is also affecting my inner thighs and running down both legs. The skin appears normal but hurts randomly. Sometimes for minutes, often for hours. It always goes away but stings bad. The dermatologist seems to think it's related to stress or anxiety. I tend to agree with him. The more I think or dwell on the the situation the more it bothers me. This whole problem started with anxiety for me.
Even though my scrotum doesn't turn red anymore, it still hurts occasionally.
I am tempted to make an appointment with a neurologist, but don't want to become a hypochondriac.
I was in excellent health before this problem started and according to my physical I still am. I have to find a way to deal with my emotions, which is a lot harder than dealing with the physical discomfort.

I've been using Elidel, an eczema non-steroid cream, twice a day for 9 days. So far it has been reducing the sensation in my scrotum for a few hours, then it gets bad again. But instructions say that it takes 2 or 3 weeks to start working. When I used steroid ointments (which I haven't for 2 months now because they stopped working and made my skin too thin), they would take 2 weeks to start working also.
If Elidel doesn't work I'll probably have to try the Doxycycline antibiotic (unless I can convince the derm to prescribe Flagyl) or oral Doxepin which is a tricyclic anti-depressant. The insides of my legs are itching sometimes, but the scrotum really doesn't. It has an constant, annoying prickling feeling and is always red. Also, my scrotum gets thickened sometimes and gets "scales". Quite strange.
Finally, something I've been wondering... about 4 years ago I had the anti-fungal medicine Diflucan twice for 10 days and both times it greatly cut back the discomfort in my scrotum. But the dermatologists have said that Diflucan shouldn't have worked since my problem is not fungal. So why did it (and for that matter, why did Tinactin work for about a year when I first had this)? Also, I had Oxycotin when I had my wisdom teeth out and my scrotum did not hurt at all when I was taking it either, but I don't know why.

I also found a connection between anti fungal and this problem. For years I would have discomfort down there. I always thought it was jock itch. The sprays always worked. Supposedly the fungus is always around. But normally doesn't get out of control. When you have eczema this natural fungus becomes a major problem. Your immune system over reacts to it. When you keep the fungus at bay with sprays or powders, you can keep the eczema from flaring.
Eczema is an over reaction of the immune system to an innocuous substance.
If you don't remove the substance, it will not clear up. Steroids will temporarily reduce inflammation but trying to identify whats causing it might be impossible.
Steroids should work within a few days and shouldn't be applied for more than two weeks. I was given ellidel also, it didn't seem to do anything.

It is very comforting to know that I am not alone with the pain and burning. I just happened across this thread and it has been very informative. So I thought I would add some of my experiences to the mix to see if I can help someone out. First I have had the burning and itching for a little over 8 years. The only difference is that I found a pain medicine that TOTALLY makes the burning disappear, as long as you take it daily. I have been on ULTRAM 50 mg once a day for 7+ years and have been able to live a normal life. No pain at all. Just in the last week did my doctor decide to take me off ULTRAM and run additional tests to try and cure the problem. I will warn you that as soon as you stop taking the ULTRAM the pain will come right back. SO this is not a cure. My doctor has just run additional blood cultures to check if I have yeast in my bloodstream. This test takes about 4-5 weeks to complete. And right now I am on week 2 of waiting. Also, my doctor did write the scipt for Metronidazole 500MG Tablets (2 tablets a day for 14 days). And I am on day 2 of that. I will keep you posted on the results. I just keep praying that this nightmare ends soon.

I first posted to this thread back in May, but since it was a "new" problem then, it got moved here: http://www.healthboards.com/boards/showthread.php?t=601423. Unfortunately he has been in hell ever since. I figured it was OK to post here now, since it seems to be chronic :(
(willy8512, I shared what you said about Vaseline, but his skin reacts to it badly on a good day, so it's out of the question.)
No one seems to be able to help. He has been to several dermatologists, but nothing is changing anything. He was told to stop the Elocon, but with or without it there's no difference.
We hadn't touched each other for over a month, and a few days ago he thought it might be like 99% improved and we took a risk and were together. Holy cr*p, it's now worse than ever. The place where it began on his upper leg hasn't come back, but his scrotum, and the rim of his penis are absolutely raw.
He's never had itching, just red, raw burning. He was on fire afterwards, and went from almost completely gone to horrific in just the amount of time we were together. He's going to see someone else today, but I'm not optomistic.
We shouldn't have done anything, but since it seemed so much better he wanted to take a chance. He did however want to avoid excessive friction so he bought a lubricant (Silk by KY I think) and condoms by Trojan that were non-latex (he's allergic to latex). They said they were polyurethane based??
The condom came off, so we're not sure whether the irritant was the condom, lubricant, my ph levels or just the friction. I feel so bad, he's absolutely miserable.
I did tell him what many of you said about antidepressants, but he's taken them in the past and has too many side effects.
I don't know, this seems so hopeless. I could cry when I see what he's going thru -- what a god-awful place for excema, or whatever it may be.

Autumn
After many dermatologists I finally found one that is willing to accept that this isn't generic eczema or my imagination. The one thing that I figured out is the skin is so sensitive that any product that you use has to be gentle. That includes moisturizers. The moisturizer I can use on my hands makes my scrotum a ball of fire. The only thing I have been able to use is Vaseline. If I use it to often even it also causes problems. I rarely feel itchy, it's more of a sunburn feeling without any discoloration. When it burns I apply a thick coat after shower. I usually use it once a week. I have the same problem with my wife. I have to rinse off with just water and apply Vaseline or it will irritate me.
I find it amazing that with all the medical advances in the last century it seems as dermatology is still in the dark ages.
We will be doing brain transplants on patients suffering from eczema.

oreo19,
I am on day 7 (14 pills) of the Metronidazole and I feel alittle better. I have another week to go. The problem is that I am on pain pills that hide the burning so it is really hard to tell the effectiveness. I am going to wait until I have taken it for the full 28 pills, then get off the pain meds for awhile and see how I feel. I have still not recieved my test results on the yeast in my blood stream to know if that is my problem and the Metronidazole may worsen that condidtion.
OK just a quick question... do all you guys still have your appendix? Mine has been removed and I read an article on CNN on how the appendix may be the "store house" for all the good bacteria that fights off the bad. Hummm... just an interesting thought.

I still have my appendix.
I was using Neosporin a couple of weeks ago for about 7 days. (I know that things can easily irritate the scrotum skin, but I was desperate.) That was probably the best week I've had in a long time. The dermatologist said to stop using it, which I did, because it will cause my skin to feel like poison ivy. Could the problem be bacteria? In which case, how do I confirm it? My sister had a staph infection on her arm a year or two back, but that might not mean anything since I don't know if a person can genetically be more likely to have staph infections.

Hello Oreo, I think this might help you: I have being over a year with this burning scrotum problem, tried creams, oils, pills etc. Because of the constant pain the doctor prescribed me a tryciclic antidepressant to help me releaf the pain, ENDEP (amitriptyline hydrochloride) in a very mild dose of 1 pill of 50mg per day. Depression is treated with 200 mg per day.

There was no problem for me, no adiction, no changes in my humor, etc. I feel totally normal, but the burning scrotum pain is back again, maybe not as strong as it was before, but defenatly more painful than when I was having the pills.
If you start taking these pills, just know, that it took me about 2 weeks to start feeling the positive effects of it over pain.
That is my experience, I hope it works.

Thanks so much for the suggestion, Nax! I will definitely see if I can get the dermatologist to prescribe Endep at my next appointment (in two-and-a-half weeks). I think a low-dose tricyclic antidepressant is my best bet at this point and this problem has caused me so much distress for a long time. But the side-effects of Prozac scared me and the dermatologist prescribed 200mg daily, which is the full strength for treating depression, so I didn't get it filled. And after 3 weeks on Elidel, there has been basically no improvement (it isn't any better than just using Vaseline or Bag Balm).
Also, to second what Nax said, an update from everyone trying Metronidazole would be much appreciated!

I'm pretty sure that Elidel and Endep are the same thing.
I also 3rd what Nax said. Please update us on how the Metronidazole's going anyone.
And any and all suggestions welcome. Please.
Just a quick thought here. Not really any sort of breakthrough, but I think I must have at least one or two or more different things going on to have caused this. I've read about how virus' can mix with bacterial infections making things worse and having mixed clinical presentations. like Eczema herpeticum. I don't think any of us have eczema herpeticum, but it's an example.

I'm pretty sure that Elidel and Endep are the same thing.
I don't think they're the same... Elidel is a topical cream containing Pimecrolimus, which suppresses the immune system. Endep is a tricylic antidepressent.
I've also read that gabapentin, which is an seizure medication, can be effective. I'll try Endep first though.

Hi! I am sorry to report that the Metronidazole cream did not resolve the problem (even though it did seem to work in the beginning). I met with a Dermatologist today and he told me that I have LSC and prescribed a new cream that is called Vusion. I will let you know how it works. However, my symptoms are not as bad as they use to be. I have been using Gold Bond cream morning and night and that has greatly reduced the discomfort/itching. If the new cream does not work, I will ask my doctor for the Metronidazole pills because some people report success with that. If that still doesn't work I will just keep using the Gold Bond, wear looser clothes, don't wash the scrotum with soap and try not to worry about it too much. Some theories suggest that LSC could be caused by stress so maybe we just need to relax more. Anyways, I will keep you all updated. Thank you!

I BELIEVE THAT I HAVE THE ANSWER...or at least part of it.
My problem began end of April.
It was after an unprotected sexual encounter...which is the case with most of you.
Ive been tracking these threads since late may.
When my problem first began I used the typical jock itch powder and liquid sprays...with no avail. THIS RULES OUT FUNGAL INFECTION.
Next I self medicated with a staph medication that I got ironically enough for an ear infection. It was 500mg cefprozil 2x a day. I began using Gold Bond powder as well...and staying naked whenevr alone so my scrotum was exposed to the light.
This was going well, until I had an allergic reation to the sick ammount of A bodies running through my blood killin nothing at all. Hives all over my body prompted me to stop.
THIS RULES OUT BACTERIAL.
I refuse to believe this is in my head, thats cr*p. Our stories are far too similiar for that to be the case.
THIS LEAVES YEAST!
Think about it men...reason for yeast...
1. Your scrotum is ALWAYS warm...a lot of blood running through
2. Generally your scrotum is in the dark (pants are not fun!)
3. Scrotums and groins are frequestly mosit....
These three conditions allow yeast to thrive!
Now many docs wont give you the time of day when you say yeast...they say "that only affects the folds of the groin."
However, upon closer examination, if the buy with the MD would look and listen for once..he would see that as the scrotum "SHRIVLES" as we have described it...it creates "folds" that are a perfect environment for yeast to thrive. THIS PARAGRAPH IS THE KEY. The "tight sack" creates tiny folds which is the root of out problem.
As previously mentioned, these folds allow yeast to thrive, and OFTEN TIEMS DONT ALLOW MEDICATION TO GET INTO THE FOLDS, rendering it USELESS.
Also, we must consider that since many of us got this from un hygenic (lack of cleaning up) after sex that the female passed us the yeast. SHE did NOT need to have a yeast infection. Yeast is ever present. However, when passed from her vagina and fluids onto our scrotum, the yeast found a little homr and SET UP SHOP. Thats right! She gave the yeast, and the infection STARTED on us. Thats why most of you report your woman had NO YEST INFECTION, she didnt need to have one.
Like I said most docs will rule this out since its not a "groin fold area"
I'll say it again...the shrivvling of the balls makes the folds.
I just came up with this thery tongit, so I am going to test at home remedies forst, as I hear they are more effective anyway.
READ UP ON YEAST....maybe youll come to the same conclusions as me.
Good luck to all, and thanks for everything so far.
I'll report back to you!

Many derms will diagnose LSC. Its easy. It makes sense. Its almost impossible to say that the doctor is wrong.
However, they are. Im sticking to yeast.
When a do says you have LSC its like giong to your GP and him or her saying when youre coughing oh its justa viral bug. East to diagnose...difficult to prove wrong.
Furthermore, yeast infections are usually firey red. And dont wane too much. Frequently you will develop little pustules as well...that look like small pimples. This is exacly my case.
Not to mention, yeast explains the very definite line of redness to normal color. The line is NOT WHERE your hair grows. If it is...its merely coincidental. What the line is is where your scrotum stops its expansion in heat and shrinkage in the cold.
Where the scrotum CANT SHRIVLE, IT CANT HAVE SKIN FOLDS, and therefore CANT have a YEAST INFECTION and will not be red.
I apoligize if you think Im taking over the board...I just think I hit a breakthrough.
YEAST INFECTIONS can also be passed orally. Something called thrush.
Thrush especially....will effect the penis head too...which I have seens reports of. Another point for yeast infection!
NOW IM LOOKING FOR REMEDIES AND MEDICATIONS!
Ill let you guys know how it goes.
I specifically remember a man saying that he thought his condition was affected y sugar levels...as he drank orange juice and it flared up.
Yeast infections, more specifically candida will cause craving for sugar, as it needs it to live.
Candida isvery dangerous. It can get into more than just your scrotum. Please treat is fast.
Let me know what you all come up with!

Candida is a squirrly little pain in the butt
It can sit for years and years, often because we help it.
This infection needs yeast, wheat, and carbs. After research, I found that in order to aid the killing of this infection, you must cut way back on sugar and carbs, almost like a low carb diet, for approximately two weeks.
Its not that hard, and it may start better eating habits if you are overweight.
Make SURE to cut out high sugar juices, soda, and high fructose corn syrup.
Today I ate a grilled chicken breast and had water. I will have similiar for lunch and dinner.
I also plan on picking up a Monistat package from my lcal drugstore. The creams CAN BE USED AND ARE EFECTIVE on men. I think I am going to pick up a 1 day treatment and a three day treatment, and after the fourth day a 7 day treatment if everything is not dead yet.
Thanks for reading.
And please, give what I have to say a chance. I'm not getting anything out of this other than what I can hope to be a cure and help for all you other brothers with this condition out there.
If you try this...let everyone know how youre doing as well.
Thanks

navyseal- no, I certainly see the logic. And I looked into it. The problem is, is that doctors don't believe in systemic yeast infections. Which if it is yeast then i have it bad. I've got a host of other problems because of this which could a be related to yeast. So I'm not discounting your theory at all. I would think that a month of anti yeast pills would have killed it for me. But maybe not. There are resistant strains out there.
Oh, I was on steroid creams for 2 months or so, which didn't help at all. - just read this though- Antibiotic and steroid use is the most common reason for yeast overgrowth

oday I have only eaten grilled chicken breast, cashews, precans (both salted), and drank mater. The redness is EXTREMELY faded already.
IM STARVING THE YEAST INFECTION!
I bought some house brand yeast killer I will start using tonight.
Also, my scrotum is NOT TIGHT TODAY, making the yeast have no where to go

Sugar and carbs affect a lot of skin problems. Yeast infections that last that long, would cause all kinds of problems. I had an infectious disease doctor check for yeast and any possible infection. My scrotum only got deep red when I applied the creams the doctor gave me. Then some of the moisturizers also caused problems.
Sugar definitely plays apart in this problem. I can't drink OJ or soda. Anything with high fructose corn syrup. The sugar in fruits never does anything. The more I stick to fruit and vegetables the better it is.
I never thought it was in my head but do believe I contribute to the problem with my anxiety. You can find millions of references to emotional stress affecting skin.
But this all goes towards eczema being the problem not yeast. The one test that can prove this is to apply various moisturizers based on different plants.
Because eczema is a skin allergy. Most people that are predisposed to eczema are allergic to some everyday substances.
Eczema can develop for no reason at any time on anybody. It affects the scrotum frequently and is the number one reason for people visiting the dermatologist. It is also affected by sugar.
I believe most men have relations frequently. So I believe it's just a coincidence that the problem started after a one night stand. People are so paranoid, perhaps justifiably, about catching something that they blame everything on sex.
I sure don't want anyone to believe that I have the answer, eczema is such a loose definition, that it applies to most skin problems. But I have eliminated any STD or infection.
The best dermatologist I found doesn't believe it's eczema either. He attributes everything to stress and anxiety. primarily because the redness comes so quickly and rarely itches. He claims that eczema always begins with dry skin.
So far I have been able to control the problem with Vaseline. But when the area is exposed to something like chlorine it burns like he-- in about an hour or so after I get out of the pool. Then it takes two days to get it back to, my new normal. Which is far from normal.

Hi guys, just googled to this forum, and it is one of the best threads I have read yet. Keep up the good work.
I too am suffering with the tight, red, itchy scrotum which I believe followed a recent relationship with a new girl. I have tried all the OTC for 'Jock Itch' and all was useless for me. (Daktarin Gold, Daktarin Aktiv, Canensten AF,Canensten HC, Lamasil AT, Daktarin powder ($$$), Ecanazole). I am on a prescribed med, Terbfinafine for 2 months now and to honest I might as well have been shoving them up somewhere dark.
A note on powders, I read somewhere that the corn starch in some powders actually fuels fungal infections (ie the carb is food) so go for pure talc if poss. Amazingly some of the anti fungal powders actually use this as their base. I found liberal application of a cheap brand baby talc worked best.
In the last week I have started to use a Tea Tree cream on the affected area 3 times a day and whilst no miracle cure I had my first nights sleep last night without waking itching for the first time in 6 months. Yeeha. I am also trying a high dose garlic supplement, and boil washing all my underwear / towels, with no fabric softener.
My next planned tests are high % Zinc Oxide nappy cream, apparently good, and then Neem oil (mentioned on this thread - or did I read that elsewhere).
I am really interested in NavySeals theory, sounds very plausible to me so I just ordered up a single dose thrush treatment Fluconazole which is available OTC here in the UK (99p generic, rather than £11 branded!).
Despite playing safe, I to feel I 'caught' this through my liaison, so have had the joys of a full (inc HIV) STD screen, including the cotton bud down the japs. Fun. Luckily all clear.
Has anyone bought one of those ebooks proclaiming a cure - for a fee, eg the Scott Young one? I presume this is just a callous attempt to make money out of those suffering.
Please keep updating guys.

I just wanted to let you know, that I have being almost 4 week with out the tryciclic antidepresants, and it didnt affect me at all in the psicological/dependency part (I had a mild dose).
BUT, the burning scrotum pain is back fully!!! I had forgotten how unconfortable and painfull this could be! I am thinking on restarting the antidepressant treatment again, I prefer much more than having this pain all the time...
IN MY EXPERIENCE IT WORKS (YOU CAN RESEARCH) TRYCICLIC ANTIDEPRESANTS IN MILD DOSES HELP TO TREAT ANY CRONIC PAIN, AND THEY DON CREATE ANY DEPENDENCY.
Keep us posted of your progresses...

NAVYSEAL:
Your YEAST theory seems to be very interestiing for me. And I think you are doing a very good point.
Its not a coincidence with sex, because I wasnt an active person sexually before I got married. This started a few days after my bachelor party, I am very positive that sex and stress had something to do with it, because after I got married I also moved to another country, with an unknown medical system, etc. It was a very stressful time.
I have being with this 1 year already, and since then, the only thing that has worked for me are the tryciclic antidepressants to treat cronic pain, I have tried everything!!
Since then I hace also carved for sugar, much more than before (specially chocolate). And stress is very related. In the begining I had this "lookalike pimples" in the head of the pinus and very pronounced redness after having sex (very much like candida or yeast isnt it?). I also though it was herpes, so I got treated for herpes and candida at the same time (diflucan and farmvir) and the problems in my pinus desapeard, I am very sure now its not an STD.
It was only after the simptoms on my pinus went away, that I noticed the problem in my scrotum. And its since then, that I have being with this problem. I have tried Canesten (clotrimazole) on the scrotum and Diflucan at the same time for almost a month, but it didn't work. So I discarded yeast or candida.
Maybe it didnt work because of the SHRIVLE and the folds of the scrotum. Maybe medication doesnt get to it very easilly, scrotum is the thinest skin of our body, and that can complicate the hole treatment and make it longer or harder!
The things that make me doubt about this theory is that I haven't had any other problems or yeast manifestations anywhere else in my body, yeast usually manifests in many areas , dont they? and also yeasts ususally produce discharge, and I also haven't had any ever. What do you think about this NAVY?
Anyway, its the most interesting theory for me now....
I have also researched and think you could be making a point. There is many NATURAL treatments, and stuff on the internet, how should we treat it? Doctors again? more pills and creams? and for how long? This is frustrating!
Iam starting today with a more healthy diet, no sugar and much less carbs, and I ll see how it goes..
Please let me know your progress NAVYSEAL or anyone that supports this theory.
I am still interested in Metronidazole Treatment or the Neem Oil. Keep us posted about this!
Good luck all.

I think the Elidel kicked in after about 3.5 weeks, because I've been feeling quite a bit better (maybe 60-70% better). Unfortunately, I couldn't make 100 grams of it last for a whole month when using it twice a day like the instructions said, so I've had to cut back on the usage. I still plan on asking about getting the Tricyclic when I go to my derm appointment next week. Topical treatments seem to all stop working at some point for me, like the skin becomes resistant after awhile. I wish there was a cure instead of treatments that work with only with continuous usage, but I'll take what I can get.
Also, does anyone here have trouble with muscle stiffness? I have chronic stiffness and soreness in my shoulders, back, arms, neck, and hands. For me it started at the same time as the scrotum burning and I haven't been able to figure out what's causing it either. The doctors doubt it's related to the scrotal burning, however. Maybe the Tricyclic would help with that too?
Finally, I had Diflucan 100mg daily for 10 days on two occasions and the scrotal burning was greatly reduced both times. I tried it again more recently at a higher dose (250mg) once a week for 4 weeks and it did nothing, however. The doctors said that Diflucan shouldn't have helped though since the problem is not fungal/yeast. But it definitely did for me until I stopped taking it.

Oreo- I have muscle stiffness and pain. It started about 6 months ago. Like the scrotal burning issue, it crept up slowly, so at first I thought there wasn't any correlation. Now my back is pretty much sore most of the time and my knees and muscles in my legs are sore too.
I've been with this little over a year. The creams I was given all seemed to help for the first week or so, but then thinks just got worse.
I was on Ketoconazole (anti yeast pill, similar to Diflucan (fluconazole) for a month. The last week or so on the ketoconazole, things seemed to be getting better or at least not getting worse. My doc didn't want to keep me on it though. I can't be sure if it was really getting better or not though. It wasn't a significant change, just less irritation than it was. Of course multiple docs have told me that if it was yeast then a month on the Ketoconazole would have knocked it out.

Hi Guys
Just a quick update, I'll list all I am doing, because I am getting a gradual improvement now:
- High Dose Garlic supplement (odour free, so cant be doing any harm)
- Tea Tree antiseptic cream, 3 or four times daily thin all over coat PLUS 2 or 3 (max) drops of pure tea tree essence as a top up
- Single dose (150mg) Flucanazole
- Keeping as sweat free as poss, sitting with legs wide all time, wearing linen suit, powder if sweating
- Avoiding (temporarily) my hobby of cycling (which is a pain).
- Reducing Carb and refined sugar intake - I am too skinny to go onto a full Atkins type diet, plus I dont think I could manage it.
- Boil washing all underwear, weekly towel wash, specific towel for area.
I am still not clear, wondering whether I ever will be, but things are very slowly improving. Although I am taking the scatter gun approach, my gut feel is that the tea tree is the most beneficial, I just hope it keeps working. After the initial burn wore off, my sack dropped for the first time in months, after just a couple of days, and that probably had even more benefit as it reduced sweating.
Good luck all

I have had a severly red scrotum and many bumps at the bottom of my shaft that have never been there before (although the doctor insists they are normal cysts) for 8 weeks now. I know that the cysts are normal but when i get an erecetion they never stood out like they do now plus i have a serious red firery balls situation. Im going on FLAGYL starting today. I will post any improvements. I know everyone here has red scrotum sndrome but does anyone else have the same situation going on with all the bumps aka cysts. I have been tested for std's and everything came back negative.

Hello again. I keep wandering back here to see if anyone has any magic bullets and it's really useful to read how everyone is coping with this. Just thought i'd update you on my experiences too.
Initial symptoms:
Itch or intense prickly sensation over scrotum which was exacerbated by heat and moisture which seemed to predominate in the area. I also had small white nodules appear initially which were intensely itchy. Occasionally i'd scratch the skin off one- the white material was not creamy in consistency as i'd thought but was fixed and not raised. i think this was calcium deposition that occurs after chronic inflammation. That has subsided now although the number of hair follicles in the area is also low due to all the scratching.
Following symptoms:
Subsequently i developed an intense itch and rash over my body which only responded to permethrin 5% cream, an anti-parasitic cream. This dramatically reduced the prickly penis/scrotum feeling. My blood eosinophils were also raised at the time which suggested allergy/parasite/fungus etc.
My doctor gave me miconazole-which didnt help. I also tried clotrimazole in the past and fucidin(anti-bacterial).
I then went on holiday for 6 weeks and everything cooled down despite it being very hot outside. I had residual symptoms but i could cope with them ok.
On my return, everything returned-rash, itchy scrotum-everything. I had thought it was a milk allergy to begin with but had not touched milk since the initial presentation of the rash. So my doctor has referred me to a dermatologist for allergy testing. She said the skin on the scrotum is very thin and more susceptible to contact dermatitis.
Permethrin was the only thing that helped really, in combination with vaseline, which made me think along parasitic lines. Threadworms infest the gastrointestinal tract, and emerge at night to lay eggs in the scrotal area/perineum causing intense itching although some people have no symptoms at all. You cannot see the eggs, they are microscopic.
So I thought if the permethrin kills the eggs maybe i should take the full treatment. So I took mebendazole 100mg stat. Both permethrin and mebedazole are available over the counter. Think that helped as most things do initially but have just repeated it 2 weeks later as suggested for eradication of the eggs. Apparently eggs can be found everywhere eg in bedding... so i washed and hoovered everything disposing of the collected waste immediately.
Just in case it was an allergy, i have stopped using the plastic liquitabs for washing my clothes and just use liquid. I also cleaned the washing machine drainage pipes. Not sure what else to do now except wait and see.
The only other thing i was thinking of was pseudomonas folliculitis. This is resistant to all antibiotics except ciprofloxacin. It doesnt look like it on the photos i saw so havent tried that yet. I see some people have tried metronidazole but am not sure what bug that could be treating so havent pressed for that.
Anyway, good luck to all...we're all in this together.

(Metronidazole is generic drug of Flagyl).
I also bought Fagyl Metronidazole Cream, but I have not try since my problem went away.
Did the Flagyl start right away or did it take some time to kick in. Im on my 3rd day and little to no progress. My scrotum skin is no longer as tight as it use to be but the burning comes and goes a little still and still very red.

i bought all new underwear at the same time i got this rash on my scrotum and penis. When taking a closer look at the labels on them, i realized that i have always wore 100% cotton underwear. The new underwear has polyester in it. I think that the polyester in my underwear is not allowing my prized possesions to breathe the way they use to. I am buying all new underwear tonight and staying on the flagyl. Fellas, check out your jocks, make sure there is no polyester. also, make sure your water coming from the tap is not hard water, if so, get water softner. holla

IM STARVING THE YEAST INFECTION!
I bought some house brand yeast killer I will start using tonight.
Also, my scrotum is NOT TIGHT TODAY, making the yeast have no where to go
NAVYSEAL, please let me know how you are doing and if you had any progress!!

Hey gang, good news! i think I'm almost cured--for real. I've felt better than I have in 3 years, the burning is gone, and the skin almost looks NORMAL again.
About 5 weeks ago, I was told i would be working overseas for a few months so I decided to give a dermatologist one last shot before I left. I had printed out this thread and showed the doctor that people were having positive experiences with topical antibiotics and doxycycline. He was very arrogant and dismissive of everything i was telling him; despite a really frustrating back and forth, he said he didn't feel comfortable prescribing pills but wrote a script for a gentamicin/hydrocortisone cream--a mixture the pharmacist would've had to mix in the pharmacy (because no one manufactures it). I felt utterly defeated and hopeless when I left the office, thinking he was a quack doctor.
To my shock, the stuff absolutely started to work. I was using it for a couple days and saw a significant improvement. No more fishy odor. The patch of moistness began shrinking. It was like a miracle. Then... I googled Gentamicin and was equally shocked by the results. The first hit on google is a page about how it causes debilitating hearing problems and permanent vertigo in many patients. I dunno if this was just a placebo effect, lol, but all of a sudden I noticed my ears ringing and figured I was doomed. Perhaps, I was just being paranoid, but it's a REALLY dangerous antibiotic apparently. It shouldn't even be prescribed and it's bizarre that he would suggest this as an alternative to something less dangerous.
Long story short, I used the cream ever so sparingly after that--the tiniest amount--just enough to barely cover only the problem areas. Some days, I wouldn't use it at all. Every day tho, it was getting slowly better. It hadn't completely gone away though because i wasn't applying it to all the areas for fear of all the side effects.
Now, here's where things get good. About a week ago, I went to a Swiss drugstore and asked the pharmacist for soap for sensitive skin because I had run out of Cuticura (the soap i've been using for a year). She sold me a body wash product called Lubex by a company named Permamed SA. I was floored when I read on the label that in addition to soothing sensitive skin, it also kills cutaneous micosi and cures "inflammazioni nella zona genitale." It was in French. I felt like destiny brought me to this random pharmacist, lol.
Anyways, the combination of these two things--the quack doctor cream and the Lubex--it's the breakthru I've been looking 3 years for. Two other things I must mention: I've been careful to blowdry the area after a shower and I refrain from eating sugar as much as I can. I've also actually been eating more probiotic foods too, I think that might help some too.
I'll write an update in a couple weeks, but for once, I truly feel I'm about to beat this thing. I'll let u know.

Larry - keep us updated as to how it goes. Where did you buy the Lubex? I can't find it online anywhere. What was the store you went to? Maybe I can buy it from them.

Hello everyone. Haven't posted for a while, but have been reading. My symptoms are back after a 10 month break. Chronic itching, discomfort and crawling feeling and regular one off sharp needle like painful piercing sensations on scrotum. I have been preoccupied with relationship issues for last 10 months which may have kept me distracted or altered something in my brain chemistry to stop me feeling the pain - I believe my symptoms have a neurological basis.
Suffice to say, the symptoms are back. Strangely, they kicked in after having a one night stand in which I took the usual precautions for safe sex, so do not think it is an STI, and the symptoms are the same as before when this happened without any sexual encounter preceding it. I am pretty sure this is not crabs, but anyway, I have used some lotion to treat crabs just in case. I have my suspicions that my problems are nerve related and am wondering if the positions I was in during intercourse and the resulting stress around my tailbone and groin have possibly compressed nerves or damaged them.
Predominantly the pain is in the scrotm which is worst, but I am also getting the occasional piercing needle like sensation in my legs, buttocks, toes and feet, and my forearms feel itchy also at times. This is what makes me think my symptoms are nerve related. In any case, I am using Eurax cream (active ingredient Crotamiton) on my scrotum which makes it burn a little / feel hot, but is more bearable than the constant itching and crawling sensation. Anyone else used this stuff? If so, for how long?
I got an MRI scan on my neck at the start of the year, (due to other symptoms not related to scrotum), to look for any nerve damage - none was found. I wanted a full spinal scan, but the doc for some reason did not request this at the MRI suite. I did not get a chance to ask why (only an all clear letter), but may go back to see if there is any problems lower down my spine. Anyway, I appreciate that most people are going down a yeast / skin disorder / kidney / liver disfunction route, but was wondering if anyone had done any research into nerve damage / disorders / scrotodynia (sp?) in this area.
I just feel like my whole scrotum has become completely sensitised, and like I can almost feel the blood flowing through the veins which causes the tingling sensation which becomes sharper and more painful on a periodic basis. My scortum is not the bright red that some people report, but a darker brown, and the skin is not flaky. Could this simply be a yeast infection? I have not tried Canesten over an extended period on my scrotum before. Any advice appreciated.
Good luck to everyone

Hi Guys+gal,
Sorry i aint posted for a while. I wanted to make my results clear a few weeks after finishing my medication.
Here goes. I was prescribed with 10 days 200mg metrowhatzit tablets. At the time i also went on holiday to a hot climate, however my symptoms did greatly subside. since completing medication my symptoms are worse with burning, prickly balls and now the creases in my thighs are red and sore.
Went back to same dermo as previous who didnt have much time to spare and totally disagreed with my theory with the tablets, indicating this is a skin problem and not bacterial. he said he couldnt do any more except conclude LSC was the cause. As i am a driver as part of my job he said its pointless upping the anti depressants i was taking(these really did make things worse)without making me drousy. he has asked to see me again in 3 months but i cant see the point.
my symptoms now are:
prickly balls, particularly from pube follicle. almost like an electric shock.
Occaisional redness of scrotum.
red glans of penis, sometime really soar around the corona.
to date i have had thrush treatments, steroids, anti depressants and anti biotics. I have tried the internet remedy of 1 drop tea tree 30 parts baby oil. this did relieve symptoms but did not cure. currently i use gold bond powder to keep em dry and i have gone back to wearing boxers.
I should note the facts from dermo and urologist.
fact
I have varicolese and 2 x cysts in my ball sack. identifyied by ultrasound.
hoowever they said this shouldnt cause this symptom.
I am now also using lamisil to satisfy myself that this is not fungal infection.

After 3 weeks on the Elidel, I felt pretty good (it's SO nice not to have burning skin whenever I sit!). The symptoms came back after a couple weeks without the Elidel, so my dermatologist prescribed more Elidel and also Doxepin (a tricylic antidepressant) because the derm thought the problem could have a neurological origin.
Right now I'm using both because the Doxepin takes a couple weeks to kick in. If the Doxepin starts working, I'll probably stop the Elidel and save it for flare-ups. I started with 25 MG of Doxepin daily and increased it to 50 MG after about 5 days. I haven't been noticing any side-effects from the Doxepin except some initial drowsiness that went away after a few days.
I'll keep everyone posted on the Doxepin. (Also, if you haven't already tried it, I recommend getting Elidel. Just don't worry if it takes a while to start working. It took 3 weeks for me, but it was worth it!)

Hey Guys,
Sorry for not posting in so long but I have some information that want to share. Just like everyone else posting I have the exact same issues and have suffered from them for eight years. Let me start on where I am at this point...
Ok, (this is going to sound irrelevant... but hear me out) I am an Architect by profession. By chance, a project came across my desk that caught my attention. I was given the opportunity to design a new office building for the Alabama Pain Center, located in Huntsville, AL. The Dr. I was meeting with was Dr. Dean Willis, he specializing in controlling pain disorders. I was reluctant to tell my boss about my problems, but I really wanted a chance to speak with Dr. Willis about my "issues". He was very compassionate about the situation and put me as lead on the new project. After a few weeks, and getting to know Dr. Willis, I finally got up the courage to speak with him about my problem. I was floored by his response...
Dr Willis informed me that I am suffering from a pain disordered called Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) or Complex Regional Pain Disorder (CRPD). If you get a chance... look RSD and Dr. Willis up on the internet. Dr Willis is a leading specialist in this field. We talked for about 30 mins about my problem and he told me he was 99.99% sure that I have RSD. Now here is the neat part. He asked what was wrong with my abdomen... I was confused by this question... but I answered it anyway... I said "I do have diverticulitis... and had problems with it for years..." he stopped me and told me that the flare ups from my diverticulitis was making my systematic nerve hyperactive and I was experiencing a referred pain in my groin. Here is the list of symptoms from RSD...
Burning pain
Extreme sensitivity to touch
Skin color changes (red or bluish)
Skin temperature changes (hot or cold)
Hummm sounds familiar huh...
He gave me a pain medication schedule to use with Lyrica. He even told me that the pain meds may not work until he did a systematic nerve block. (I still do not know what that is or how he is gonna do it at this point.) But the pain med schedule is pretty simple. You take 1 50 MG pill a day for 3 days, then two pills for a day for three days, ect until you hit 300MG a day. At that point he may continue to have you increase the meds even as high a 600MG a day. Once the medicine is in your system long enough he will use the nerve block to "reboot" your systematic nerve. And once the block wears off, the Lyrica will keep the pain and discomfort under control.
Now with my case it is tied to a chronic problem (diverticulitis) if I get another attack I may have to have the nerve block again... and again... So just this week I found out from my Digestive doctor that the diverticulitis is so bad that he wants to remove the damaged part of my intestine in the next few weeks. This is scarey, but it removes the root of my problem so I am more than willing to get this done. But RSD can be caused by many different factors. Not just diverticulitis. I would suggest you discuss this with your doctor. Even my doctor of 8 years was skeptical... until the Lyrica started working.... He ended up calling Dr Willis and they had a long review of my medical history. Now he is convinced that I have RSD...
Look in to it maybe it will help you too. As a last resort call the Alabama Pain Center located in Huntsville, AL. Dr. Willis, is a wonderful Christian man and an answer to a prayer in my life. Sometimes if you just take a second to believe and pray, you might just have your prayer answered too!
Zahc777
(P.S. Dr Willis if you someone ends up in your office and they show you this post from this forum. Just know that you have changed my life in more ways then you can ever imagine. Thank you so much. And please pray for all the guys that are experiencing this nightmare!)

Zahc777, thank you for that post, seems to make some sense. From your post it appears that you have not yet had the nerve bloc, but are in the process of building up your dosage of pain medication following which the nerve bloc will be done. Is this correct? If so, please keep the board updated with any progress.
Can you please confirm which medication you are using, ie doubling up on each day? Also, do you know where the nerve bloc is likely to occur, ie at the base of the spine or elsewhere?
Many thanks

This board goes on forever with all kinds of theories. More than one dermatologist mentioned eczema to me as the diagnoses. My symptoms don't match the typical symptoms of eczema. But yours do. Eczema is an inflammatory skin disease which causes dry flaky itchy skin. The symptoms come and go usually connected to an allergen or stress.
The most likely culprit is something in your diet. If you have problems with digestion, this causes problems with your immune system. The majority of the immune system is in your digestive tract.
This doesn't mean that you are allergic to a specific food. But your body doesn't digest something properly.
The mainstay of treatment is cortisone. When symptoms get bad you can use over the counter hydro cortisone ointment.
I believe there are hundreds of unidentified skin problems, that are being lumped together and called eczema. The medical establishment isn't the slightest bit interested in pursuing a cure for this disease, or even a realistic treatment. Some people are covered with it and have lesions that itch and bleed constantly.
At this time I use Vaseline. I apply a coat of it on the scrotum every other day after my shower. This keeps the skin looking normal and it rarely itches. For me sugar and spicy food cause problems.
For alot of people it is dairy, wheat or nuts. But anything is possible.

Anyone have burning mouth problems with this?
Zahc777- I'm not sure what's involved with a nerve block. And in no way whatsoever do I want to dissuade you from following that path. But let me know if you have any questions about the laser treatment I had. It too has to do with nerves and there's not much to it. You just go in. They do a few shots of the laser onto your scrotum. And that's it. Takes about 2 minutes.

Hi all. New here , but will add my two cents worth if it helps anyone
Been reading this topic for a while now, as have been suffering similar conditions for 4 months now, ithchy scrotum,no rash, slightly red and spread to inbetween buttocks now. Seen, Doctors, Derms etc. First diagnosis, fungus, then bacteria, been on cortizone, anti-biotics etc for all the above. Tried various cortizone creams, baby bum creams, anti-fungal creams , eczema creams, sprays, Ketaconazole soaps nothing worked. Then Doctor said maybe Scabies, tried Lindane, no effect, so ruled that out. Been tested for STD's and done comprehensvie blood tests (twice) to be sure and all negative, so rules that out. Had swabs, and skin scrapes, negative and no fungus got cultured or grew, so that rules that out. What next ?
Doctor wants to do a biopsy, which I want to avoid at all costs, as this is going to be painfull. (imagine having a tiny piece of skin cut off your um sack-ouch!). If they can all mis-diagnose this, on hit and miss, then do they really know what they are doing or just making money out of us? I would rather take matters into my own hands (no pun intended:D)
I have been reading what "navyseal" said (at last someone with logical thoughts who has been through this methodically, well said bro:)), and it makes absolutely sense as to what he says. IT IS A YEAST . If it gets transferred from a 2nd/3rd party to you, then your body has no mechanism to fight it, and it takes over where ever it touched or got transferred, and sits in between your scrotum creases, and in the dark nether regions of your butt. This is prime territory for a yeast to grow. I only had it on my scrotum, but it has since spread to in between the legs, and this is why it makes so much sense. Contact dermatitis wont spread , nor will a bacteria if you have taken anti-biotics, neither will a fungus , but a YEAST will do that, if you happen to um scratch, and then maybe wipe or scratch or touch other places. IF it happens to be a 3rd party transferral, then it will spread, and your body cant fight it.
I am also a firm supporter of Natural remedies, and the only person who could cure my chronic sinus (had it for 12 mnths) was a homeopath using natures remediesThis also after I had been to umpteen doctors and had 4-5 courses of antibiotics. So, i read on a thread about a natural treatment for itchy red scrotum(cant remember where) and luckily wrote down the recipe which uses essantial oils.(Thanks to the writer who posted it). Look up the ingredients, and read what each can do. You will be amazed what these potent oils can cure, and they cover all of the above infections, fungus, bacteria, yeast etc. I would like to share this with you all as it might provide a cure for some of you that will work.It is worth looking into as I have had immediate results. You cang get these at most herbal stores/drug stores so here goes :
1 x drop Tea-tree oil
1 x drop Lavender oil
1 x drop Oregano oil
30 drops mineral oil (you can use J&J baby oil)
( I have not managed to find oregano oil, so used only Lavender and Tea-tree). Apply liberaly to affected areas 2 x day- 1 at night before going to sleep, and again in the morning, after taking a shower. I have used my partial mix (no oregano!) for two days, now, and it the first time in 4 months the itchyness has stopped, and my groin/butt area has stopped itching. I will continue to use it for the next week and report to all if it has cured me of this nasty bug.
You need to also fight this thing from the inside so I also took the advice of some others on this thread, and take 2 tablets x garlic supplements morning and evening (garlic is a natural immune booster), have cut out all sugars, and carbs (this promotes yeast growth), breads , pastries, soft drinks etc. Eat only grilled meat/chicken/fish with vegetables/salads. Yoghurt and meusli for breakfast. Drink plenty of water at least 2 litres per day. (being properly hydrated helps the body get rid of toxins).
I am feeling confidedent we can beat this thing, the natural way.
Keep you all posted.
I believe navyseal is on the right track with his diagnosis, so if he has any feedback that would be welcome if he has also found a cure.

Hey rugbyfan thanks for the post, keep us updated on how you get on. I used tea tree for a while but as with the OTC creams the effect wore off and I am back to where I started. The most frustrating part for me is that I can’t sleep through. I usually wake at around 2-3am sweating and itchy. Some powder and a trip to the lav usually sorts it but I still find it so annoying. I am trying the diet thing, but I cyle 20+ offroad miles 4 times a week and I simply cannot sustain that without carbs. If you start reading the ingredients on stuff practically everything contains sugar, or sugaring carbs. Fruit, an essential part of a healthy diet is also killer on the sugar front eg an apple contains about 15g.
I found some research on Fungal infections and although I couldn’t understand most of it, it was clear that the ‘azoles’ have been around for a while now and are very ineffective due to tolerance built up by the infections. Terbinafine works in a different way and was recommended as the treatment of choice, although oral AND topical application seemed important. To that end I am going to use Lamisil religiously for 4-6 weeks in combination with the best I can do on cutting out the sugars, and adding the following supplements: Caprylic Acid, Omega 3, Garlic & Pro-Biotics. All these are mentioned variously across the web but I increasingly feel that this is just probably hippy clap trap.
If no success at the end of that, back to my (uninterested) GP and insist on a Derm consult, luckily I have BUPA so this shouldn’t be a problem. Get the tests, even if this means a biopsy and take it from there. If it is fungus I’d be happy to go on Terbinafine for a long treatment, but until it definitely know that I do not want to put my Liver at risk, although having read the research I understand that this is a very low risk.

oreo19 checking in with a status report...
I've been taking the Doxepin, an oral tricyclic antidepressant, now for almost 3 weeks (5 days at 25mg and 15 days at 50mg). I haven't noticed any side effects other than a little initial drowsiness that went away. Unfortunately, I haven't noticed any benefit either. But I know Nax said a while back that the benefits can take 3-4 weeks to take effect. I'm hoping, hoping, hoping it'll work because my scrotum burning flared back up about 5 days ago (not as bad as it was, but still awfully annoying). I've upped my Elidel usage back to twice a day (which is recommended, but I can only get 100g a month with my current prescription, and it's hard to make it last that long using it twice a day). I fear that the Elidel will stop working though, because all the other topical treatments eventually quit working for me.
