hi again everybody
I was wanting to know if my skin condition is related to Fibro. I have atopic dermititis and psoriasis. I went through a rough time with it about 5 months ago it is now in remission. I still have break outs but not as bad as it was I was so miserable. I have it under control now. Has anybody else had problems with there skin?

hi trup,
i use a topical steroid on my scalp and have stuff for my elbows when they get those bumps that itch. also get blister like things on my fingers and hands. fibro related? i don't think so. they were here long before the fibro danced into my life.
shaving my head has helped alot. so does being very careful about the stresses i allow into my life. stress can trigger skin conditions like psoriasis and dermatitis. i switched to an all organic soap i buy from a woman i know who makes it. it has oatmeal and honey in it. i hardly ever break out since i found her. i also use "free" laundry soap and dryer things. oh, and i wear only cotton, linnen or silk clothing.
peace,

Hi Trup. I have not been diagnosed with either, but I have these scaly patches on my arms. Sometimes they itch, mostly the just sit there. If I do scratch, a small round disk of dead skin comes off and it is then flat and raw. I'm writing you really to tell you that there is a form of arthritis called Psoriatic Arthritis, linked to inflammation. Have you asked a doc? A rheumatologist?
Wishing you peace and comfort,
Paddy55

Hi,
Don't know if it's fibro related. Read something at the Mayo Clinic site that says it might be. I also have what they call generalized inflamation syndrom ( just their way of saying inflamation with no known cause). Either could be the problem but I get it on the top of my head. It starts burning then I get whelp like bumps that blister, brake, and dry up and go away. Who knows? It is just one of my "symptoms of the day". I happen to have it now. Bummer!:(

Hi Trup:

Nearly all fibromyalgics experience this sort of misery. Diagnosis such as dermatitis and psoriasis are common too, as are mysterious skin eruptions that are never quite given a name. Nails crack, chip or peel and often become ridged. Cuticles shred and tear, hair is usually of poor quality, dry and short lived, with premature falling out.

A study was done in 1998 that reported mast cell involvement in fibromyalgia. These white blood cells produce more than 30 identified chemicals and proteins. Patients underwent skin biopsies that showed these cells disgorging themselves of their contents. Their stockpile included histamine, which involved itching, hives and other miscellaneous rashes. These cells are involved in the immune response. In other studies it has been found that there is a higher-than-normal blood and tissue levels of histamine in FMS patients.

Bottom line, what you are experiencing is normal for an FMS patient.

Blessings,
Kirstee

Thanks everybody for responding to my question. I was diagnose with the skin problems by my dermatologist about a year ago. The itching gets really bad sometimes but now I also have the Fibro to suffer with. I was wonder about the skin problems and where it came from because she said the psoriasis was hereditary and no one in my family has it that I know of. But now it all makes sense because my rheumatologist said it was Fibro related. I'm going to ask a bunch of new questions about Fibro when I go back to him in about 2 weeks. I will let everybody know if I find out some useful info.

I also am really sensitive to different materials that I wear. The first thing I do when I walk into a clothing store is go around and touch everything. I thought I was just weird or anal, but I now think it is because I have hypersensitive skin thanks to fibro.
