View Full Version : Cushings?

I just went through a battery of tests. My main concern is I think I am hypogonadal.
Somehow my 24 hour urine collection was misplaced at the lab and I have to do it all over again.
The endo feels that I most likely have Cushings syndrome. He says it has many of the same symptoms.Personally I don't think it's cushings.
I told him...Let's do a 3 month test.Put me on Test cypionate for three months and I'll almost guarantee you that the only meds I'll need to take are the test c and plavix(keeps blood from clotting in the stent just put in my artery),and I'll bet I won't need to take anymore blood pressure meds of cholesterol meds.I'm taking 9 meds right now.
He tells me....work with me here, let's first find out if you have cushings.I could have a tumor in the adrenals or the pituitary. He said your test is in the 400s...so I'm still mid level but low according to Shippen and Crysler.
So I told him ok.....now I have to take the dexamethasone again so they can get a reading on my cortisol levels. He thinks my adrenals are over active.
So in my mind I'm thinking...if my adrenals are over active...wouldn't I be skinny and not obese?
Anyway...it'll be 3 more weeks before we get new results.
I don't know why these doctors are so against normalizing the male sex hormone.
I've researched and researched and found from many sources like Harvard med school,Mayo Clinic,Deaconess,Johns Hopkins,Yale and a few in Germany that replacing testosterone can reverse heart disease(atherosclerosis which I have and diabetes which I also have) it normalizes blood pressure, builds muscle and burns fat, builds bone tissue, improves mood.
That is if you stay in the upper range of normal..which for me would be in the 800s or more.
I understand the danger if it is abused...ie: Lyle Alzado...but used therapudically it is not a danger. It also does not cause prostate cancer...they now understand that when a maan ages his testosterone is often converted into estrogen...which is what cause the prostate cancer and the obese mid section.

Cushings can lead to weight gain, especially around the belly. I think it is wise to rule out all other issues before starting replacement because replacement can skew test results. Sounds like if you don't have cushings he will be willing to let you try the T so I would just go along.

taking T doesn't magically burn fat or make muscle grow. It just gives you the potential to do those things. In other words you still have to work out. After my brain surgery I was 350ish lbs (closer to 360) had been taking TRT for a month at that point. Felt better, better mood, more energy but it was me going to the gym 6 times a week and on a strict diet that got me down to 235 (took nearly a year). it was the working out that dropped my BP and cloesteriol. (had a physical today BP was 110/74)

Just want to make sure you realize there will be work on your part to get better and get off the meds.
