Hello,
I had a cold and a bad case of laryngitis one month ago and continue to experience voice problems. Raspiness, weakness, lack of range - I CANNOT sing well, and high notes not at all. Sometimes my throat feels very dry, as if a drink of water would help, but it doesn't help. Because I'm a teacher, this is causing major problems for me and I am worried.
I THINK I do have some reflux. But, not knowing that much about it, I'm not sure. Sometimes when I eat, it backs up on me and winds up back in my mouth. Especially things like ice cream or frappucinos. But it can happen with other foods too. The other day I had a salad and a glass of water and some of that came back up. Is that reflux? I don't get heartburn.
I understand there's a type of reflux that can affect your larynx - LPR. My doctor has put me on a trial of Prilosec to see if that will help, and she told me to book an appt with an ENT.
I'm wondering if maybe my vocal cords were compromised in the first place by LPR and then maybe the viral laryngitis was just the straw that broke the camel's back.
Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Yellowdaisy ,
I have seen 2 ents and they were not any good at giving me a Dx. I think its a good idea to see one, maybe you don’t have a gerd/lpr problem. maybe your problem is something else, but if you do have a gerd/lpr problem you will probably be seeing a gastrologist. Try and do your homework on checking out the gastrologist and ent’s you see. If you think that you may have gerd/lpr make sure they have some knowledge about it. I believe the first gastrologist I saw mis Diagnosised me, they have Ent's and gastrologist that specialize in gerd.
All the best to you
