My 5 year daughter is scheduled to have her tonsils and adenoids taken out next month. She is a habitual snorer and will stop breathing when she sleeps. Has anyone else gone through this procedure with their child?? I'll admit, I am quite nervous!

When my daughter was 3, she had a T & A.

She did just like your daughter. She would snore so loud you could hear it over the TV and she was not getting the rested she needed.

The procedure lasted about 45 minutes and within 1 1/2 hours, we were back in the room with her. She was a little groggy at first, but soon came around.

The 1st week was a little rough. They told me not to force her to eat but she had to drink plenty of fluids to keep hydrated. This was hard because it hurt her to swallow. They gave us plenty on pain meds and antibiotics which helped a lot. They also said to watch out for her spitting up blood, but she never did.

Popsicle, yogart, jell-o, etc... are a must.

They told us no hard activity for about 2 weeks.

After 2 weeks, she had full strength and now can rest good. I have to listen very close to even hear her breath. It did change the way she talked some because she always had to speak around the adeniods.

She is 6 now and is doing great. I do not regret doing the T & A.

Good luck to you and your family.
