Hi Mel. So today is my Dads 2nd day after chemo and he was apparently still VERY weak. He has not been able to shower in two days. He apparently is now having shortness of breath too. I wonder this weakness etc....is a side affect of the chemo even though the chemo was "non palliative" I hope to god it is, otherwise do I book an immediate flight out if he is still feeling as bad? Thanks for listening...again

Hi, I dont know the answer to that. However, when my girlfriend had shortness of breath, the fentanyl for pain was reduced and that took care of the shortness of breath.
The chemo really wiped her out. She would usually have chemo on Thursday, take Friday off and then return to work on Monday. I don't know how she did it for 8 months before she stopped working.
What has the dr said? Do you know what chemo he is on so you can look it up? Is your dad going to the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale?
When are they going to put in the stent?

My dad is on Gemzar. The oncologist told him he would have no side effects, but my research says differently. My dad is having his stent put in on Wed.

My dads hospital is Banner Good Sam. He has Cigna and when he went in for his irregular heart beat (which is when they found the cancer) he went to this hospital because its near his primary care. Of course it is 45 min away and his "team" of doctors came from this hospital. Mayo would have been so much better. He actually went there last yr for his heart and loved it.

I just hope the chemo works and that helps my dad. It is sad to know this will be my dads last fathers day...

when i went through chemo, it was not easy. They didn't know how long imma last. i had to sleep in the hospital every month for 2 weeks because when i fall asleep i stop breathing, so they had to monitor that. now its been a year and i'm fine. i get a lot of short breaths but i felt that staying in a really cool or really warm area, made it hard for me to breath when i sleep. the temp has to be warm.
