Hi, everyone, I've been given tramadol from doctor 50mg to try for pain, had to literally beg and cry for them!!![ how demoralising] anyways been taking two a day, only problem I've found is that if i take them later on in the day i can't seem to sleep, any one else get this? x Also here in uk my doctor seems to avoid the questions that i ask about fibromyalgia and Cf's, i never get any sense out of her, except keep taking the sertraline and see your psychiatrist! I think that she just thinks that i am not quite right in the head and a general moaner....I hardly ever used to be at the doctors until two years ago when she gave me reglan for nausea i took them for six months and had terrible side effects from them. This i think was the cause of all my problems now, before reglan i was a happy healthy pain free person...
Take care people...;) xxx;):)

Charlesgirl,
Yes I take them 50mg in the morning, but I feel I need to take one more in the late afternoon but I dare not because I can't sleep either. I even tried cutting them in 1/2 still no sleep. I have problems sleeping anyway so I thought it was just me. My husband hurt his back and I gave him one and he slept like a baby but was pretty loopy, so I guess they effect everyone different. I told my Dr and he tought I was crazy he had taken them and she slept like a baby also. I really can't take anyting else because other pain med's make me itch so badly. Good Luck your not alone. Does is work or help you in anyway? Denise

Hi,
I've taken the tramadol before. It caused me to have what I have heard called "twilight sleep". I wasn't asleep enough to rest. I couldn't keep my eyes open but could hear everything going on around me. It didn't help the pain either it just kind of made me too drugged to care. As far as the meds you were on before, everyone here knows I refuse to take anymore drugs for the very same reason, side effects. The more I look at this thing the more I agree that it was probably my body's response to too many meds over the years. There is only so much toxic stuff your body can filter out before it gets you. Just wish I could figure out how to set it right again. I'm sure we would all like that. :)

*madly jumping up and down and waving hand*
My reaction is like Donna's, but worse. If I take a 12.5 Ultracet, which is Ultram and Tylenol, I do not sleep for 24 hours. Not even if I take a 10mg Ambien will I go to sleep.
The attitude you're getting from your doc is unfortunately all too common. There are many, many doctors who don't yet believe FM and CFS are real. That's why she keep saying to go see your shrink.

I take tramadol for pain, and I also have a hard time sleeping in the evenings. My problem is, if I don't take them in the afternoon, I still feel so much pain I can't sleep at all! And sleeping meds seem not to work on me. While I was at the hospital they kept upping the sleeping medicatin they were pumping into my veins until they gave up- they were giving me way too much for my weight. I feel for you on the 'need a shrink' part as well. I've gotten that a lot, I kept searching for the right doc and have been diagnosed with Fibro and Lupus. So keep searching for someone who respected me enough to take my word well.

Hi clerklady, yes i do think that tramadol helps me, i also take 30/500mg co-codamol for pain but it only takes the edge off things. I was told by doctor only to take 2 tramadol a day because i am also on sertraline and there is an increased chance of having a seizure! when i collected the tramadol from the chemist the advice was that it may make me drowsy, quite the opposite it keeps me awake! I also have polyarthritis in my back and the tramadol helps this, i do find though that it also can cause me to have more headaches but i am still willing to take it.. i stumbled across tramadol when my partner was taking it for a broken heel, i took two and was amazed at how good it was. I still suffer with fatigue but when you have got less pain to deal with you don't feel as bad xxx take care xxx;)
