I'm hoping to get some good information because so far, I'm lost...
Last week, I was told that I tested positive for herpes. This isn't surprising as I've gotten 2-3 cold sores a year since I was about 6. However, my doctor told me that a "titer" test showed that Herpes II was at 1.64 and anything more than 0.9 was positive, so I actually have type I and type II.
I've done a ton of research since I was diagnosed, and it seems like the more I read, the more confused I get. Apparently, my IMG test was negative for both Type I and Type II, my IGG test for type I was 4.35 and for Type II was 1.64. The stuff I read says that it's very, very hard to distinguish between type I and type II unless it's a certain type of test. Also, I've never had any symptoms of type II (no sores anywhere in the "boxer short" area).
If I truly have type II then I'll deal with it accordingly, but it seems like just about every website I went to had stories or warning about misdianoses. I talked to my doctor, he told me the test he ordered was the only one available to him and that if I want a different type of test, I need to see an Infectious Disease specialist.
Am I wasting my time by getting more tests? What test should I request?
