I was questioned by my Neurologist office about the dosage of Zanaflex I am currently taking (12mg). The Nurse Practitioner made the statement that this was a high dosage. I thought I had seen that dosage can be up to 36 mg a day. Does anyone else take this amount daily or more? I know that this is a nonconventional use of the medication for FMS, so I assumed that the Rheumatologist would be up to date on the dosages. I just wondered if I should be alarmed by her statement. I have an appointment in a couple of weeks and wondered if I should call before then to verify.

If the generic of zanaflex is tizanidine (and I think it is) I took it for a couple of years. My dosage was somewhere around 10mgs. I believe. Sorry I don't have any old bottles to check. Anyway the only problem I had with it, is it caused a problem with my liver. It raised my enzyme level so I had to stop taking it. That can be one of the side effects, but I took it for 2 or 3years before having any problem.

I am taking 4mg 3x a day, but don't think it's helping me much. Other posters on the Pain Management forum have recommended switching to Soma, which I am going to ask my doctor about next visit.
