I picked up the October issue today and I was reading it and came up to page 108 where a person asked "Can you get STDs from oral sex?"

Peter Leone, MD, answered by first addressing genital H1 and how up to 50% of new GH cases are type 1 mostly due to oral sex. He also mentioned people not always having visable symptoms and unknowingly passing it on.

Such a small thing but I was ECSTATIC to read that!! It's great that a mainstream magazine is FINALLY raising awareness about HSV1!!

You better BELIEVE I am going to write them a letter telling them how great it is!

If only I read that a year ago, I wouldn't be here today. *shrug* I just hope that someone reads it so that it doesn't happen to them! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

I think people are finally starting to take notice of the coldsore/genital herpes connection. I subscribe to Penthouse and to Maxim, and I am unsure of which months issues it was, but within the last 6 months, I have seen articles in both these magazines about it. It definately needs to be addressed. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

i agree . i was never educated about h until it was to late. i think that kids should be thaught more graphicly about the dangers of unprotected sex, before it is to late. but then again i think they like everyone being ignorant to h so they can sell more expensive meds. but thats just my opinion

I definitely agree that the younger people... heck.. even the older folks like me need to be better informed. As educated as I am and as intelligent I proclaim to be, I was very ignorant about how easy it is to transmit herpes. I think it's up to us to get past feeling ashamed and start being more straight about the perils of unprotected sex. I am now oficially and advocate of getting tested before having sex with someone new and I'll make sure I pass that on to those close to me.
