Hi

I have read in the following website that different strains of HSV 2 exists. And some cause more serious symptoms than others.
http://www.innerself.com/Sex_Talk/herpes.htm

Terri, do u agree with this finding?

The article is as follow:

No. There are different strains. Some apparently never cause repeated outbreaks, others are more severe. In addition each person reacts differently to a herpes infection, some people having many recurrences, others with the same strain having few or no recurrences. If you have genital herpes and you meet someone else with genital herpes you should still make sure that you take steps to avoid catching their type.

my thinking on internet information is this;

1) you usually have no idea who wrote it
2) you usually don't know how old the info is
3) anyone can post anything on the internet

my advise, try to stick to sites that are from a known sorce, a test labrotory or reserch lab, herpes or std organizations and posts like this. as far as different strains, i have read some info on this but i don't think you can find out what strain you or someone may be carrying so there is not much your going to do about it!

I have come across the site before. I think the informaiton is old. They don't do a good job of explaining that HSV I and II can be either genital or oral...They also mention that the blood tests are unreliable or somehting. I wouldn't trust the info. You should stick to this site, webmd, and the herpes home page.
