does anyone know if planned parenthood will check for std's for free? i'm not sure tha i have one but i'm paranoid that it is herpes. i would be too embarassed to see our family doctor, plus the fact i have no way of paying to see a doctor. (no way of paying for anything in fact) so i was hoping planned parenthood might do it?

Doesn't hurt to inquire but you may want to keep your income information on the lower end. Meaning, they may reject you if they see you make more than the poverty level. The clinics seem to work with your word and not financial records. I'm not saying to lie but....

planned parenthood is a really good place to go. I am a 28 year old male, so walking in there felt really goofy, but they were super cool and were more helpfull than any doctor i have ever went to. they will do testing for all common stds but will only do cultures for herpes. herpes blood tests are not given there yet. as far as cost, i have a pretty good income and i paid something like $60 for the first visit, and $80 for the second. it is all based on your income. look for a local office on their web site and call and ask. Further more, if they can't help you there they will be able direct you in the right direction.

They charge based on income....back when I used to go when I was a teenager and didn't have a job, they charged me nothing.

Planned Parenthood is a great resource. My gyno actually recommended that I go there after I had a bunch of abnormal par smears and she was going to charge me hundreds for a biopsy. I started going there, although I never did the biopsy... I went an alternitive route and was able to clear my my pap smears without them burning my cervix....but that's another story.... ANYWAY, sometimes I feel like Planned parenthood sees more crazy stuff to compare with anyway, so maybe they have more experience with STDs in that they see a lot of young people. Not that young people are the only ones at risk, by any means, but i think you get my point. They usually just ask if you want to leave a donation.
