i have been a relationship with my girlfriend for over a year now and i love her very much. about two months ago i was diagnosed with hsv2(genitals). i guess it laid latent because i have never cheated. and i have passed the virus on to her(on her mouth). i feel really bad about what happened and im not sure when it safe for us to kiss again. i had one serious outbreak and now i have been suffering from just minor outbreaks. needless to say or sex life has been put on hold. but i would at least like to kiss her. i was prescribed aclyovir but i feel like it doesnt work and i have been doing better without it(feel like im waisting money). i shower about 2 or 3 times a day(everytime i get sweaty) and use a new towel every time. but i cant seem to kick it. also i have putting rubbing alchol on not so serious sores. it seems to help. is it dangerous? im not in pain , just uncomfortable. am i being obsesive? please help?

I get outbreaks due to stress which I seem to be able to control now that I started taking lysine 500mg every day, and 1000mg when I start to feel the symptoms coming on. I also keep that area as clean and as dry as I can. Even to the point of using a hair dryer instead of towels. These simple things have really worked for me.

hey lil,
Thanks,I was already considering trying the garlic oil. If your bumps dont itch i wouldnt worry about it. i had something simular to that before. when i popped them this little hard white thing came out and they bled a little bit, but then just went away. i figured it was folliculitous. as for my gf, she is really understanding and we live together so we are pretty open with each other. she was starting to think i would never kiss her again! but that wouldnt happen. if i were you i would justtry and relax and not worry about it until the doctor looks at it.

Can I ask how you know that you passed the virus to your girlfriend? Did she have her oral cold sore swabbed and it came back positive for HSV2? Perhaps it is HSV1 and she obtained it from some other place or as a child. Did she have cold sores as a child? Its just from all the reading on the subject it seems HSV2 is extremely rare. ********** stated almost 100% of cases of oral herpes are HSV1 and you probably could not catch HSV2 through oral sex.

well to be honest im not really sure if it was from me or her, but i have had more sexual partners than her. they didnt swab her h, im guessing because they (the health clinic)already knew that i had it. i wish they had swabbed her though. she got sick about 6 months ago and she had a cold sore but it didnt last nearly as long as this outbreak. i had unproteceted sex with a girl that was sleeping with a few other guys at the same time! and i didnt even know. so i figured that i must havent gotten it from her. is it possible to get hsv2 from hsv1?

No, HSV1 stays HSV1 despite the location and the same with HSV2. If your girlfriend has had oral cold sores or fever blisters in the past, then she may not have gotten the virus from you. The only way you can tell whether she has oral HSV2 is to have it swabbed. Oral HSV2 is rare and when it happens it is supposedly very mild. In any case, I would think that if you have had also had oral cold sores or fever blisters in the past then you have already been infected by HSV1 (as most of us are) and so kissing her would not be a problem. I am just learning about this, but I believe my information is accurate. If its not, I'm sure someone will tell me!

Have your GF get a type specific blood test. If she comes up negative for type 2 then you did NOT give her oral herpes.
If you have ever had a cold sore yourself, and hers turns out to be type 1, then you needn't worry about kissing her at all, as you can't "catch" it again

My understanding is that you can reinfect yourself or your partner on a different site, so you do still need to be careful. I know that I accidentally reinfected myself (from around my vagina to my anal area.)

By the way, makingthebest, sorry for other posts replying to your gf's original post. We all misunderstood the situation. You actually do sound like a prize!

LILNAKEDGIRL & MAKINGTHE BEST,

This sounds like it was a viral STD called molluscum (or molloscum, I can't remember the exact spelling). The tell-tale signs of molluscum is bumps that ejects a hard white thing when you pop it, and then bleed, sometimes quite a bit. It is a very common viral infection. Once you have it, you always have it and it is possible to spread it to others, but usually people only get the bumps one time. This sounds like what you may have lilnakedgirl. It is very common and in other countries, it is not really considered an STD, and is quite common in children. In the US, it is considered an STD if diagnosed near the genital region and in adults, however, my doctor said it is possible to catch it from sharing wet towels with someone, from toilet seats, and from sitting on the edge of a public pool. Be very careful when touching these bumps (if they are indeed molluscum), because it is very possible to spread them to other parts of your body. ;)

she went to the health clinic and they didnt even do a swab even after she asked. this was even the day cold sore appeared. knowing of my previous history, he just wrote her a prescription for aclyovir. i thought that was strange
