I take Celexa,20mg. Does anyone think this may contribute to my insomnia? I have gad and insomnia. The Celexa helps with the gad but I am beginning to wonder if I should quit taking it? I had insomnia before I took Celexa but I am wondering if the Celexa makes the insomnia worse. Help and thanks

Melanie,

I'm so sorry to hear you're suffering sleeplessness. As a long-time insomniac, I have tried so many things, and I will tell you, I definitely experienced worse insomnia when I tried some of the SSRI-type anti-depressants. So, I would not be surprised if the Celexa is aggravating your condition.

I am going to dig up some of my old notes I have regarding sleep hormones and start a new thread....it is very interesting to know that there are so many chemicals/hormones that influence sleep, and so many medications and "natural" supplements can impact those balances dramatically, or even just a little bit. The problem is, from what my internist says, that when one hormone gets out of whack, even if it's not one that directly impacts sleep, it can cause the body to overcompensate for the imbalance, and then impact the hormones that control sleep.

If we could just all figure out what our own chemical balance needed to be, and what factors impact that balance, we could cure ourselves! Of course, then we wouldn't need doctors, pharmaceutical companies, health insurance, etc. And you KNOW that will never happen....

I'll be praying for your sleep to return, darlin'!

Blessings,
Tex
