Hi:
My aunt has advanced colon cancer. She is on Folfox4 Chemotherapy every 2 weeks. She has been advised against dying her hair. I saw online Henna was an option, but the nurse told her not to use even that. Does anyone have any suggestions of products which would not be harmful to cover grey. It is really bothering her, and I would love to find something which would be okay for her to use. I’ve heard of people using Kool Aid, is this an option? Any ideas would really be appreciated.
Thanks!

PS: She has had some hair loss due to the chemo, but has kept most of her hair.

Hi Cincy

I just spent time with a friend last night who actively is being treated for cancer for three years now. Her hair had pretty much turned all white. So, she died it with vegetable dye that she got from a health food store. No chemicals at all.

It really gave her a lift! She feels much less obvious in her looks as a 'cancer patient" and much better when she looks into a mirror.

I am a cancer survivor myself. I went completely bald. I didn't think I would care so much, but I really did. I hated looking so obviously ill. If I had had any hair, I know I would have wanted to do something. I wouldn't have put anything chemical on it, but you know what? If I had had the option of a non-chemical product, I would have gone for it. There is a huge mind-body connection in fighting cancer and if we can feel we look okay, it frees our minds a bit and that can only help us.

Best thoughts to both Auntie and you

Hi Reach:
Thanks so much for your reply.
My aunt did end up going with vegetable dye, and she is so happy. She had a few events this weekend, and was thrilled with her new look. I was so happy to be able to find the info for her, since you are absolutely right, it gave her a much needed confidence boost. It was so cute, she kept telling me on the phone how happy she is with her hair.
God bless you and your friend that you mentioned.
