Is anyone familiar with or have experienced fugue state of consciousness? The other morning, my daughter, after being up for 16 hours, after working the night shift, and also being dehydrated with poor nutrition since a recent gastrointestinal illness, drove to the bank at 9 a.m., wide awake, feeling good, decided to go to the pet store next door to get her pet a dog bone, and while in the pet store, does not remember being in there, does not remember what she bought, paying for it, how much the bill was, leaving the store, or driving back to her apartment 5 minutes away, and then drove on the left side of the median strip to the street in front of her apartment, and crashed her car into the gate of her apartment, and proceeded to drive around to the back of her apartment where she parked. All she remembers is hitting something. Does not even remember which entrance she came into the apartment through. Was shocked later to find what she had bought at the pet store including gourmet dog food; huge, huge dog bone bigger than her small puppy, and spent $43. Does not remember any of it. She says she was wide awake and feeling good before the pet store, remembers a conversation with the banker, and even I spoke with her myself for a good half hour before she left for the bank and I was surprised she sounded so good just after working the 12-hour night shift. Does this sound like a state of unconsciousness, or a fugue sleep? She has no history of seizures or other illness.
