I have some questions. My husband's award letter said that he would get his 1st SSDI payment by July 3rd, for the month of June.By reading the SSA website page, I was under the impression,based on his birthdate, that he would recieve his payments on the 4th Wednesday of the month (4/22 is his birthday). My other question is about the backpay. They gave us an amount and said that the 5,300 for the lawyer was taken out, but it was unclear if the amount they are showing is what we are getting before or after that is detucted.
This is all so confusing, I wish they would explain things better (and give the same story every time you talk to them). If anyone has any answers, I would greatly appreciate it-thanks! Rachel

Normally one receives their checks based on their personal birthday. Mine is the 21st of the month, so I receive it on the 4th Wednesday. The person may have just said the 3rd on auto pilot, but I'm pretty sure your hubby will get his on the 4th Wednesday, and if he receives it on the 3rd, thats just much sooner....As far as the $$ amounts, the letter will say from what month, and year SSA deemed your husband disabled, remove the 5 month waiting period, multiple the $$ per month up to July, and you should see the actual amount,less or more the lawyer's fees...Sorry if this is somewhat confusing, but its the only way one can figure the numbers, unless you call SSA and they'll explain it thoroughly for you. Hope this helps a bit.

When I began receiving SSDI the beginning of this year, it came on my "birthday date". A few months later, they changed the date, and now it comes on the 3rd. I don't know why they changed it, but if they want to give it to me early, I'm certainly not going to complain!

If they said your check will come on the 3rd, it probably will.

I have never understood the birthday thing with SSD, So I cannot help you there.
But I can answer your question about the award letter, The amount in your letter is the amount before the lawyer, so subtract the 5,300 from that. That is how it was with mines. I got my ssdi backpay and the amount I got was not what the letter amount was but minus the lawyers 5,300.

There is a payment calendar on the SSA website that explains when one's payment would be sent according to their birthdate.

Ok, another change. I just received another letter, informing me I would get my backpay (it already came) and that after that, my monthly payments will come on the second Wednesday (my birthday date). Why they changed it from the second Wednesday, to the 3rd of the month, now back to the second Wednesday, is certainly a mystery to me.

The amount of back pay stated in the letter is the amount they deposited in my account.

Is there no rhyme or reasone to anything they do? You,Roses,have recieved your backpay from SSDI and are awaiting your 1st check. I,on the other hand,(my husband) is recieving his 1st payment on the 3rd and we are still awaiting his back-pay (lawyer had NOT been paid yet as of Friday). It is hard to tell why they keep changing your date of payment-in fact,it is hard to tell why they do anything the way they do. Wish I had a better answer for you-Good Luck;) Rachel

we were told that the ssdi check would be the last wed. but they changed that and it will be the 3rd. I think maybe yours also. Somthing about ssdi changed to the 3rd. So I will hope for you. If you call they will tell you.

also i call to check backpay and i was told that id things like ssi have to be taken out then they put you in a 60 days after 1 check status. That dosent mean it will take 60 days just that they cant send it until after the 1 st payment. So it could be same day after the first payment hits. I hope that is the case.

We actually got a letter stating we would have it on or about the 3rd of July. I guess something did change-I will not believe anything until I recieve it. Thanks for the info!

We are still waiting on that back-pay. The lawyer had not gotten paid as of Friday, but we did get all of our back-pay from SSI. Now that we will recieve SSDI benefits starting July 3rd, we will no longer get any SSI,so they paid what they owed us from there and now we just wait on the lawyer to be paid and then we get the SSDI backpay from what we understand. At least the payments will start in a couple days and we can slowly live again

I used to get my check on the birthday schedule thing, but after I applied for Medicaid, they (the State of Iowa) picked up my Medicare expense. Because of this, SSA changed me to the 3rd schedule... So, as it was explained, any special changes to a monthly check (NOT deducting the Medicare), had to go through a different process which results in the older schedule. I dunno why that makes a difference, but...
