Yesterday I was reviewing some past posts from this site and ran across several references about magnesium supplementation. Several things made an impression on me, those being:
1. Two different posters said after they started supplementation they felt calmer and more relaxed. As a type A person with HBP who is constantly "wound up" and feels he may suffer constant spikes from this, (bp goes up as much as 25 top and 10 to 15 bottom when I feel wound up vs. when I feel calm.
2. Another poster said that people who enjoy alcohol on a regular basis could be magnesium deficent. I'm certainly not totally overboard with alcohol but to say I'm not a person who enjoys a few cocktails on a regular basis would not be accurate either.
I spent the morning reviewing a number of studies that all spoke of the blood pressure lowering effects of proper amounts of magnesium in the diet. But when I reviewed historical posts on this forum relating to magnesium many people referred to the fact that magnesium will not lower blood pressure? One poster said it did nothing to lower his BP while another said she was doing very well with it (although she provided no begining and ending BP numbers).
Very confused, anyone have further information or have ever tried it?
