I have a cast on - hoping my PTTD will get better. I do NOT like the pain meds and have thought if only I could ice it... Well is it possible - will it help with the swelling?
Thanks this board has been so helpful.

Ice is most effective behind the knee when you have a cast on. It cools the blood going into the foot. You can put an ice pack on top if you are careful to keep the cast dry, but it doesn't work very well.

I put large ice bags on my cast.... that's what they did at the hospital. I figured it sure couldn't hurt. Maybe it was wishful thinking, but I actually feel it worked. I even put ice bags on and around my toes.... and like everyone else, behind my knee. I never had much pain or swelling, so maybe it actually really did work.

yes you can. and elevation is the most important aspect also. my doctor said that as long as you have it elevated, icing is a second thought. but i do ice through my cast. it's not super noticeable but does help.
