Not for me. I was on it for a couple years. It did, however, help me to stop smoking.

I quit taking it last month. I know it was part of my insomnia/sleeping problems.

Good Luck!

For those of you who think Wellbutrin caused you to have problems sleeping -- when did you take it? I'm looking into alternatives for Paxil and Amytriptiline, and would like to know more. My doc is thinking the new one on tv commercials - Cymbalta?
Wishing you peace and comfort,
Paddy

This is just my opinion, so take it with a grain of salt....

If you are not depressed, I think taking the SSRI-group of anti-depressants can really mess up your sleep patterns, and perhaps even bring on depression. Of course, everyone reacts differently to medications, but I have experienced this myself and have heard countless cases where it has happened.

The old tricyclic group of anti-depressants are used frequently for many FM patients, both to treat the sleep problems that so often occur, as well as to treat pain. They are much more sedating than the SSRI's and seem to work well in blocking pain receptors.

Welbutrin, Cymbalta, Paxil, Prozac....these are all SSRI's. Elavil is the most commonly prescribed tricyclic, also available in generic form as amitriptyline.

Some anti-seizure drugs, such as Topamax and Neurontin are also good for treating FM pain and can also aid with sleep.

My two cents' worth....

Neurontin isn't really used much for seizures anymore. There are other drugs that are more effective. It's best purpose for existence is neuropathy. (nerve pain)

Wellbutrin is not on the short list of anti-depressants for FM patients, but if works by all means use it. The ones that work the best for most FM patients are Cymbalta, Effexor, amitriptyline and Remeron.

SSRI's are actually very good choices for FM patients, even if depression is NOT a major component of your presentation. Something in the way they work turns off some of our over-active pain receptors. Nobody knows why, and most of them do NOT mess with the sleep patterns of FM patients. All of them except Remeron are to be taken in the morning unless they make you sleepy. Remeron is designed to take at night and help you sleep. That's the one I take with very good results.

The only way to find what works for you is to be willing to try just about anything. Not everybody gets lucky in the first try like I did. In fact, very few people get lucky on the first try like I did, lol. I caught mine very early on in its presentation when I still had relatively few symptoms.
