Hey guys, first post here but I've been reading a lot about others with bad breath problems. I'd like to share my story, hope it will help someone with the same issues I'm having.
First off, I've had chronic bad breath since I was a kid. I'm 22 now and lately I've been desperate to find a cure. Here are the symptoms of my problem, hope that someone else has the same symptoms, then you probably have the same problem I have. I get more sore throats more than most people do, but nothing crazy. My bad breath comes back right away, even right after brushing/flossing. I do the lick test (lick your hand, let it dry and then smell it) to see what my breath smells like all the time. It has always has this super gross feces smell. The weird thing was that it was pretty much always from my tongue. If I take some saliva from around my teeth or something, there was pretty much no smell. This lead me to believe that my tongue was the problem, but it's not, it's just a place for the bacteria to get stuck. I wake up in the morning with horrible feces smelling breath, every day of my life for about 10 year or more now.
I heard that tonsils may be the cause of the issue, but I didn't think that was the case for me because they never really hurt much, except for my sore throats, which were never that bad.
So I went to the mirror and had a look at my tonsils the other night. To my surprise, I saw that they were a bit swollen and had white scab looking things on them, about half the size of a dime on each one. So I stuck my finger back there to feel them. [warning, things get gross here] I had a look at my finger and there wasn't anything on them, but OH MY GOD whatever was on my finger smelled HORRIBLE. I was the same bad breath feces sort of smell that i have been experiencing for like 10 year or more now. I actually threw up a bit in my sink because the smell was so bad. I felt sick to my stomach for the next couple of hours just from thinking about the smell.
The funny thing is is that I've probably had this infection for a lonnnng time. When I went to look at my tonsils last night, they didn't even hurt at all before, so there was no real way of me knowing that they were infected. they hurt a little now from me touching them.
I went to a doctor today and they confirmed that my tonsils are infected. They gave me some antibiotics today and I just started taking them. If the infection doesn't die, I'm going to get them removed. Either way i'm almost positive that I have FINALLY solved my breath problems.
I hope this helps someone out there. If you have the same symptoms that I described, get your tonsils looked at.
So that wraps up my gross story for now. I will keep everyone updated on my progress. The doc swabbed the back of my throat when I was at the clinic, so I'm still waiting to hear back from them to let me know what I have. I'm very sure that it is a bacterial infection, not a virus because of the super gross smell.

Ok, so an update for everyone. I'm 2 days into using the antibiotics, but they were not helping my bad breath problem. I have been reading up a lot on tonsil stones though, but once again, I thought I couldn't possibly have them. WRONG. I read about how to remove them if you have them, and i pulled out 2 very small hard stones and several soft tiny ones that were in the process of forming. Wow, that was GROSS.
After pulling them out, I cleaned my mouth out really well (brush/floss/tongue scrape etc) and performed the lick test. For the first time since as far back as I can remember, THERE IS NO SMELL. I'm so happy right now, you have no idea. Keep in mind that just a couple hours before removing the stones today, I did the same thorough cleaning of my mouth and did the lick test right after, and it smelled bad as usual, so I know it has nothing to do with the antibiotics.
I will keep everyone updated if things change. Really hope this helps someone, if you have bad breath, do some research on tonsil stones. You don't need to buy products and junk to get rid of them. Just clean your hands and dig them out with your fingers. Gargle with salt water or a homemade tea tree oil mouthwash daily to help stop them from coming back.
So happy right now :D
