Hi. I've been searching the internet for different options for propping up my foot, since it's seems like it'll have to be elevated non-stop for a couple weeks after surgery. Should I get something fancy, or do a couple good 'ol fashioned pillows do the trick?
Thanks.
Thanks.

What matters is that you are comfortable in that position for long periods of time, including sleeping. Pillows, beanbag chair, special cushions, whatever works for you. Try different arrangements out

I am mostly stretched out on my comfy couch, with my foot, sometimes both feet elevated by many pillows, and supported under the knees as well to prevent hyperextension. Sometime I drape my leg up the back of the couch. I have my lap top, my books, phone, my paperwork from work and some drinks. At first I would ask my family to bring me food. I am in week 3.

You don't need anything fancy. A couple of pillows to elevate your foot and one behind your knee worked good for me. I iced and elevated diligently for the first 36 waking hours and it helped alot keeping swelling and pain to a minimum. I had Morton Neuroma surgery on left and hammertoe surgery surgery on right 3 weeks ago.

I found that elevating both feet seemed more comfortable during the first couple weeks. It is amazing how uncomfortable it can be to be on your rear for an extended amount of time. Try out your couches and bed to find out which are the best fit.

Thanks everyone. I guess I'll try a couple things and see what works best. I just want to be prepared because I know I won't be going anywhere for a while. I have two and a half weeks left and it seems like it will never come. I just want it over with.

I had two surgeries for the same problem, so I've tried two things for propping up my foot... The first time I used pillows. The second time, the hospital gave me a foam wedge that had an indentation running down the center to set my leg in. It was lower by my knee and higher as it got to my foot. I probably wouldn't have run out to buy something, but after having this thing, I loved it! It stayed in one shape -- didn't move around like my pillows did -- and I could just throw it in the car whenever we went anywhere... very easy... and very comfortable.

I had a foam wedge around the house. I'd bought it years ago to try it for GERD and it didn't work. But it was wonderful for elevating the foot. I sat in a recliner and placed the wedge on the foot part of the recliner. I also used the wedge in the bed. I wasn't able to get it all under a tucked-in sheet, so I just covered up with a comforter.

I guess I'm just obsessing over things now because I can't do anything except wait. There are so many different kinds of leg wedges out there. I now pillows would probably do the trick, but I'm a planner and just want to make things easier for myself.

Stress at this point is totally normal. Next, you can obsess over cleaning your house and making and freezing dinners for yourself. Look up my thread about "got the pre-op crazies" to see the state I was in two weeks beforehand!
It'll be fine.
