i've posted a couple threads and noone has answered me yet. maybe someone will answer thisone:
okay, last 3 visits to dr. my bp. was high. lower number was 95, 101 and then 98. so w/o questions prescribed me dyazide 37.5-25 mg. capsules once daily.
reluctant to start a med. i decided to monitor my bp at home for a day.....in the morning it was 92/69 pulse 80 and just now it was 114/74 pulse 92....
im wondering if it's just high cuz of being nervous at dr.s office, rushing, etc. cuz it seems normal at home. i will monitor tomorrow as well and go from there...could this be possible????

I'm sure it could be possible. I almost always get lower readings at home than at my doctor's office.
However, with diastolic numbers like you have, I would want to be sure that the lower numbers you're getting are accurate. Were all the lower numbers from the same bp machine? Maybe check it elsewhere and then discuss it with your doctor...
Good luck.

BG,
Usually with "cuff anxiety" it is the top number that is higher. I would ask if you can have your b/p cuff checked at the Dr's or go to an ER or Fire Station. Once you know your cuff is within range at least, you can check your b/p in all sorts of situations. When you are relaxed, when you are stressed out, when you are eating your favorite food or petting your Dog. Just pretend you are a nurse researcher putting together some info for your Doc. Keep a detailed record to show your Dr. You certainly don't want to go on meds for life without good reason to do so. Try some lifestyle changes even if you do have to go on meds. The DASH diet for HBP has had a lot of success. Stress reduction is a must. Good luck. Fam

According to the two medical textbooks I recently bought, most people have an increase in b/p at the Dr's office. And why not, our health plays a pretty big factor in our well being-any threat to that is a big thing. Fam
My doctor called it a 'White Coat Syndrome'.

okay, was monitoring for a few days, my top number varies depending on what im doing and if im stressed it's usually between (111-130) and the bottom number only goes over 80 when im "exercising" or after i smoke a cig....but other than that it doesnt go over 78....so, im not so sure i need to be on a bp med. i know dyazide is a combo of diuretics....would it be safer to take an otc diuretic beings that its not as potent and much much more milder.....i did hear about the dash diet and when i went to the grocery i did buy alot of fruits and low fat cottage cheese, skim milk and mainly white meats....so, i think with that and an otc diuretic i shouldnt have to be worrying anymore, is my bp too high if i take prescription meds am i gonna get sick....lol....what do u think? i know noone here is a doc., but have more valuable info., real life patient advice! thanks guys!
