Yippee! My backpay finally came, and I can pay off my bills now!

First filed for SSDI in Sept 2005, received a fully favorable decision at my hearing in Oct 2007, received award letter Dec 16 2007. A full 6 months from receiving the award letter to actually receiving all the benefits I was due. What a relief. I have been on edge so bad these past few months over this, so glad it's over with now!

Congrats! You deserve it.

I don't mean to be the bearer of bad news, and you may already know this, but make sure you save some $ because you owe back taxes on that money as well. Many don't realize that and it presents problems later.

Good luck.

Thanks, everyone! I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off. The worry I was doing, the guilt and franticness I was feeling. I have gotten much calmer inside lately. It is so hard to describe to most people how unnerving it is to not have money to pay bills, and not know what to do about it, and know that working, even part time, is not an option.

I have to praise my lawyers office forever now (middle Alabama, Charles Tyler Clark). If not for them, I wouldn't have made it through the system, because I just couldn't deal with the contact and the stress. They got the max fee from me, and I feel they earned every penny of it. They kept in touch with me on what was going on, the problems they had encountered, how they were working with SS to get them rectified, and were pleasant and helpful every time I called. They earned their fee, and my respect.

I am so glad this battle is over for me. Best wishes to all of you who are still caught in the middle of this extraordinarily unpleasant process, with hopes your claims will be handled quickly. My prayers go out to you.

Lynn, yes, the lawyer's office is in downtown B'ham, but they handle cases all over the state. There are several lawyers in the firm.
