I applied for disability about 2 months ago, and I know that all my doctors have sent in their info, which is great. My person at the disability office seemed quite impressed that all of them were sending them. A couple of weeks ago I got a letter in the mail saying that they had made a doctors appt for me to meet with a doctor, so he could examine me, and get more information for them to make a decision about approving or not approving me for disability. I was nervous, and I called her and asked her about the appt., she said it was no big deal, no reason to be nervous, and to call her the day after to talk about how it went. I felt better after talking to her.

Friday I got a letter in the mail saying that the appt with the doctor has been cancelled, and they no longer need the additional information to make their decision. What does that mean? Is that good for me? I hope that someone has had a similiar situation and can tell me what it means.

I am awful nervous now, and I called a couple of times on Friday but my person was not there, so I will call tomorrow. The letter said that they no longer needed the additional information, and I am feeling that a decision might have been made, and it is one way or another, yes or no.

I know we all need money, when we get sick, and can no longer work, and pray for it to come through and sometimes wait a couple of years, but my husband has not talked to me in weeks, and wants nothing to do with me, won't even let me touch his arm or give his a kiss, he is so stressed about money, and our financial issue, if i get disability I will be so blessed, and hopefully my marriage will get better, and I will do something right. Stress is a horrible thing, not only has it made me sicker, but it is hurting my marriage. I was always afraid of if I got ill, or had something that made me not feel good, sometimes bed bound, who would take care of me. The answer is me, and my 2 and 5 year old. My husband works, and he works hard, he takes care of us as far as financially, but right now we are in a financial mess, and I think it is taken out on my sometimes.

So there is my quick story, and I blabbed a little, but I need to get somethings out. I was hoping that someone has had this happen to them with disability, and what was the outcome? Any help would be great and so appreciative.

Thank you

Kass

Hi Kass,
It sounds like they got enough information to make a decision. Whether it's yes or no is anybody's guess! I hope it's a yes, but if it isn't, don't lose heart. Almost everyone gets turned down at first. Keep appealing and hopefully you'll be approved in time.

Blessings,

Hey Kass.....It could be a sign either way....Either they've found a reason through your Doc's notes to deny and don't need their own Doc, or the opposite....The Docs info is very profound and the chances of their Doc disagreeing is slim to none. In fact, what usually happens is that they will forward all the info to their Doc to review ahead of time. More than likely, the Doc has reviewed it and told them there isn't any way he can go against them medically. So, the appt is canceled to save money. Also, if their Doc says you're disabled, they can't find some loophole and deny you. They can deny you based on your submitted information and then approve you later if you push the issue. The whole process is a game, quite frankly.

You situation is similar to mine...I found out covertly though. I was sent to a Doc by my insurance company and he canceled (before the the SS process). Then, they sent me to a second one....While I was waiting for the Doc in the examining room, I glanced over and saw a letter sitting on top of my file explaining the previous Doc canceled because he couldn't disagree medically. I just kept it all to myself.

It shouldn't be any surprise that these insurance companies and SS send patients to denial friendly Docs....Docs they've worked with in the past who have a very high denial rate....And they're paid handsomely for their services....And SS (and insurance companies) keep sending them consultations. They bill SS (and insurance companies) upwards of a $1K for their services...It's usually a 60-120 minute comprehensive examination.

So, back to your case....I'd say it's a very good sign. You never know though....Could be the first scenario I laid out. As a general rule, Docs don't like to disagree with one another....Too much liability and professional credibility on the line...Bigger picture standpoint...All these Docs usually work in the same relative trading area.

Just be patient and let the process run it's course. Sounds like you have your act together and it's only a matter of time before you're approved one way or another.

Good luck.

Every person I know who has had an appt and it was cancelled, was approved.
Keeping my fingers crossed
