I had posted last week of my surgery of on big toe on July 11. My question is what kind of preparations can I do now? Like books, putting things where you can get to them. I will be off my foot for several weeks. I have a walker and some crutches my mother-in-law has. Also does anyone who has had this surgery, have a standing up job they had to get back to. I am a dental assistant, and even though we do sit some, we do alot of running around. I have gave a 3 week asbents. Thanks....Nifty Fifty:confused:

How are you doing now? I had a big toe fusion almost 3 weeks ago. No pain at all as I recover, however being nonweight bearing is driving me crazy!! My foot is wrapped in an ace bandage with the lovely big black shoe. :) My doctor said I could start walking on my foot in 2 more weeks. This would only be 4 weeks non weight bearing. How did it feel when you were finally able to step down on your foot?

Thank you for your advice. I have another question about baths and showers. That seems like it would be a hard thing to do for the first 2 weeks. How did you get around in house and such? On crutches or a walker, or could you just walk with just your heel touching the ground. I have tried to think of some things to do ahead of time. All your comments are very helpful. My suragery is Friday and I have about worked myself to death cleaning the house and grocery shopping. I am getting a little nervous now. I will let you know how it all comes out. Nifty Fifty:):)
