I am new to these message boards. I had ptts 5 years ago. I have been in pain for at least 3 years. I have bone spurs and arthritis in my foot. I am scheduled to have have 3 bones fused (the cuboid, navicular and talus). I will be able to move my foot up and down. I can't stand the pain any longer. I think it is worse knowing what I am going to have to go through since this is the second time.

My questions is: Has anyone had bone fusing and found that the pain really does go away?

The name of that surgery is triple arthrodesis, for fusing three bones.

If you search under that, you can find some info on this board. I haven't had it, but at one point it looked as if I might, so I could maybe answer some questions if you have them.

Good luck!

What foot surgery did you have?

I managed to get away with only arthroscopic debridement.

I had PTT surgery 2 1/2 years ago and my most recent MRI showed subchondral cysts and low grade degeneration. I had the same surgery Jane had in February which helped as I had anterior ankle impingement and had very little up and down and none without pain. Fusion will be my next step. I am hoping to put it off as long as I can as my right foot is quickly collapsing and starting to pronate. It will be a toss up I'm afraid as to what comes first, fusion on the left or PTT on the right. There is a message board dedicated strictly to ankle fusion that I'm sure you can find if you do a little searching. I review it periodically. For the most part the people on there are pleased with the results as far as pain goes. It does accelerate arthritis in the other joints that take over from what I have researched and heard on the other board. But that can take years so to me, a few years of pain free may well be worth it. I think only you can make that call for yourself as you know how bad your pain is. Right now my pain is something I can live with. When it isn't, I'll deal with that then. But I won't be in pain the rest of my life if there is something that can be done to take it away, even for a while.

I had an ankle fusion in 2004 and I am still in pain. I am praying that your surgery goes well and a speedy recovery.

I have arthritis from my previous surgery, that's why I need this one. I can't stand the pain anymore. I have a clothing store so I am on my feet all day. I've been through this type of surgery before so I think it's worse knowing what I have to go through. Thanks for the advice.

Are you in less pain now than before the surgery? Thanks for your kindness

I don't want to discourage you but I am in just as much pain as before the ankle fusion surgery. Most people have less pain after the fusion. My prayers are with you.

Hugs Nadine:)
