My youngest adult daughter shared with me that a friend posted a "bumper sticker" on her Face book site that reads:
I have CDO.
It's like OCD but the letters are arranged alphabetically,
the way they're supposed to be.It gave me a chuckle at first. Then I thought more about it (maybe obsessed a little) and realized it's actually a good way to explain what OCD is like. I think of OCD and other mental conditions as being on a continuum with most people being somewhere on that continuum. So most people would probably be able to relate to that joke enough to understand the point.
It also gives me a line to use when I'm irritating my daughter with my obsessions. Since it's supposed to be humorous, it doesn't sound so much like I'm using my OCD as an excuse for my behavior.
