Hello, 196 isn't high. It's still below 200. I hope your doc. told you to do a 12 hour fast before the blood test.

Some people react to too many processed carbs, and grains, or the gluten in bread products. Even skinny people can have high cholesterol. Does high chol. run in your family? Then you especially need to watch your simple carbohydrate intake, while increasing your complex, meaning vegetables. Too many fruits can contribute to high chol. as well.

Let me assure you that your cholesterol is not THAT bad or genetic. Drop the bad carbs, like breads, baked goods, and processed and packaged foods and you'll see the levels go down. Eat more fresh fruits and vegetables. It would benefit you to get them lower, and I have no doubt when you clean up your diet and excercise you'll do it.

If your levels were genetic, they'd be well over 250, usually over 300. You didn't post your ratios or your HDL/LDL levels. That is definately something to consider.
