I am just wondering how others' casts are situated after the PTTT. I had a cast that covered nearly all of my toes. They replaced it as I was having difficulty and now the entire length of my toes is outside of the cast and now I am getting pain in the spring ligament due to my toes being able to flex. How are your casts situated?

I only had a cast for my first PTTD surgery and my toes were exposed completely. It was summer, so I was glad to have them out of the cast! I had no problems with tendons or anything else as a result. I think it helped that I was able to wiggle them around. How do you know it's your spring ligament that is affected? Have you talked with your dr about your concerns?

My spring ligament is one of the ones that was partially torn - it is in the arch of my foot, so I knew that was the same pain. I did call the doc's office today and they said having more of the toes exposed is actually better as you get some "wiggling" movement but the cast prevents side-to-side motion. The spring ligament is painful because of the movement and the healing. They repared my spring ligament with suture and wire, I think, so I was just afraid I was moving it too early or something and could cause damage. They told me things were OK, so I guess they are!
