View Full Version : New test results - troubled

Well, I got my latest test results and I'm confused

Total - 270
LDL - 227
HDL - 48
Trig - 82

I had a Homocystein (6.7) and LPa (16) test done too.

I have CAD, eat a good diet and excercise alot. I also take Niaspan and Red Rice Yeast.

The trigs are lowest they've ever been and HDL is the highest but NOTHING gets that LDL down!!I guess I need a statin to get that in range??? The doc wants it under 100!!!

Any comments/advice before I see him next week would be appreciated - I know he's anxious to start the Zocor!

Looneyjm you are right that your ldl needs to be under 100.I am surprised that he does not also want your TC under 180.You being diagnosed with CAD puts you under the same guidelines as myself.
As for the statin, you are already taking it.Probable not in the dosage that he would put you on,but the effective substance in red yeast rice is the same as in the statin. If you can tolerate the red yeast rice you should have no problem on the statin.
I have to assume that your not mentioning the rest of your results, that your liver function and glucose were normal.

He did say he'd like the TC under 200.

My LDL just won't budge! My HDL went from 33 to 48 and triglycerides from 600 to 88! My blood chemistry is VERY different - but not that @$$%@! LDL!!

Looney, are they sure those test results are right? I was always told to get your LDL # you would divide your Trigs. by 5 to get an average, then take your TC, subtract your HDL plus your Trig average to get your LDL #. If your divide your Trigs. of 82 by 5 U get 16.4, so if you take your TC of 270 subtract HDL of 48 and Trig. average of 16.4 U get 206, not 227. If they could be wrong on this, who knows if the other numbers are right. I would definitely question those test results. I know even 206 LDL is high, but there seems to be a huge difference in your numbers. Good luck, and let us know how things go. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif JJ
