I had my doctor give me a cortisone ingection, into the bursa/bunionette area of the left side of my foot. I'm about to go on a trip and hope the shot would help the inflammation. I don't have time for another foot surgery until the fall. Has anyone had a cortisone shot near a bunion or a toe, near the little toe in my case? Right now, the bunionette is rather numb, since the injection, and the bunionette feels more swollen, not less. I'm panicking, because I got the shot to hopefully alleviate the pain, before I go on a vacation. Now, it feels worse?

Sometimes, cortisone makes it worse for a day or two. Icing helps with that.

My very first injection of cortisone in my bunion three years ago actually hurt more the first couple of days (once the lidocaine part of it wore off),but then it stopped. It just needs time to get into the joint area good. Use some ice..it should help though.

it should work for a while.

I had a particularly bad reaction to a cortisone injection in May and ice was the only thing that helped. While it was miserable while it lasted, the majority of the increased pain was gone by day 4. Good luck!

Forevergimpy, are you saying the pain of the injection subsided, within 4 days, but you didn't have any relief from the cortisone? The needle was very large. Where were you injected again? I'm about to go on a trip and I'm stressed.

My injection was in the mid foot near the base of the 5th met. For me, the injection made the pain 100% worse. I was not able to bear any weight or tolerate my toes moving at all. That acute pain subsided by day 4 or 5, but I was left with bruising for at least 4 weeks and the original pain. My ped said my reaction was rare and was rather unsympathetic. I actually just scheduled surgery for this same issue for July 3rd so hopefully I can get this all behind me.
I hope that you'll find relief soon and can enjoy your time away.
