Hi everyone,

I have an urgent question and was hoping someone knows something about this.

I am following up with my ENT July 15 and will tell him this then. Anyway...my main symptom is a lump in the throat esophagus area in the middle right above collarbones. He did the nasal tube camera thing (although not down the esophagus) and said it looks like a reflux issue.

I have been noticing that first thing in the morning before I eat, drink, take meds or anything that the sensation is not there.

Then, once I drink water, take meds, eat, swallow anything etc. there it is, back again and stays the whole day.

Does anyone know WHY this happens or what this sounds like?

Thanks!
Angie

Could it be your thyroid? Have you had that ruled out or is it in that (butterfly gland) area at all? FLFLOWERGIRL:)

hey there,
i know how you feel.I have had this going on 7 months now.I woke up in Dec with the same feeling.FOr me its turned into problem after problem.I have had 3 EGDS done & all kinds of other tests. They say i have acid reflux.HOwever,i think its a muscle that is not working properly. So i'm going in 2 weeks to a swallowing Disorder Center in Winston Salem.I'm praying they can fix this feeling of a lump/knot in my throat.I also feel like when i wake in the am its not as bad & then throughout the day it gets so bad.As if i cant breath.I'm thinking i have what is called Globus Pharyngeus/this is caused by reflux & then causes the upper esophagael sphincter (UES) muscle to go into spasm. So i'm hoping this is my problem & i'm praying they can fix it.They say they have had alot of success with botox. So i hope this helps me.Does this sound like your problem??How long have you had this feeling?

I've had this issue about two months, your issue sounds quite similar to my issue. I have severe health anxiety and a 15-year history of smoking, alcohol and drug abuse (kicked all those habits a couple years ago) therefore my mind always goes to the worst case scenario.

My ENT thinks it's reflux related but I'm taking no chances. Nervously awaiting my July 1 barium swallow and who knows when he'll tell me the results? My mom did tell me if the results are bad they will call right away and not make me wait.

I am thinking/hoping mine is some kind of spasm that will resolve itself. I am taking Prevacid, not sure if it is really helping at this point, the sensation is pretty much constant although at its best first thing in the morning, then as soon as I take a sip of water or bite of food boom, there it is.

Keep me updated and I'll do the same!

Angie
