I went to the doctor because I thought I was getting a rash. I woke up one morning and noticed my arms around my tricep area was itching. I started to scratch a lot at it and noticed little red bumps.
They didn't go away and actually started to show up on my legs as well. Now I get really itchy randomly on the back of my arms, the inside of my elbow where my forearm and bicep meet, the corner of my shoulder and pectoral muscle where my armpit is, but especially on my legs. I scratch my legs so bad that they both have scabs on them from scraping thin layers of skin off and I hate it!!
The doctor took one look and said it looked like some type of poison ivy...and prescribed my a pill (antihistamine) and a cream (same I think). The problem is, I HAVE NO COME IN CONTACT WITH POISON IVY. I work inside and wear jeans all day. How could it of gotten to my legs and last this long (3 weeks).
It upsets me the doctor wouldn't even take a sample or anything just went solely on the looks of it...
Does anyone have any idea what this could be?
I'm going to go to another doctor and be forced to pay for it myself because with my insurance I have to get a referral and I don't even want to go back to my normal doctor for this.
Help please!

Hello
you won't get many replies. Look at other sites.
It's impossible to answer such a question for one. Have you changed soaps laundry detergents, dryer sheets. Have you eaten anything new, started taking new vitamins. After you think of all the possible allergy scenarios, remember it doesn't have to touch your skin to cause a problem with it. I doubt it's poison ivy, but it could be one of billions of other things. Eczema is a term thrown about frequently for itchy sensitive skin. The worse possible thing you can do is scratch. This only makes it feel better for a few seconds and worse for days.
For now stop using whatever is new and take short cool baths in oatmeal. Don't use soap on the area and don't waste money on doctors. They are only interested in taking your money. Try calamine lotion for the itch, antihistamines probably won't work.

Hi Cir.,
I've had my share of itching skin for two years. I find benadryl cream works well but it is costly. I use 70 % alcohol which calms it down & prevents infection from scratching. It will sting at first. You should try using it on a small area first. Fam
