TB 08-23-2002, 07:47 PM Who told you that you were going to experience alot of leg pain? It CAN be a side effect. The majority of people who take it experience either no side effects or very minor ones. You do need to have blood work done to see if you have muscle damage. How do your legs feel when you exercise? deeson 08-23-2002, 08:46 PM My PA told me and once they did blood work and it did show some muscle weakness but nothing was done.Anyone one know of a save colestrol medicine? They have me on 80mg of Zocor and said to try taking 40 mg. now. ARIZONA73 08-23-2002, 08:46 PM Deeson, you are definitely not alone. My father had taken Zocor for two years and experienced the exact same symptoms as you have. He has been off it for over two months now and is beginning to feel slightly better. The pain no longer awakens him in the middle of the night. It certainly appears that symptoms can often develop long before anything abnormal shows up in a muscle enzyme test. If you want to read some really interesting stuff, check out the "Zocor Message Board". So far, from what I've read on that message board, it seems that just about anything is possible with this stuff. ARIZONA73 08-23-2002, 09:06 PM Deeson: If you are looking for a substitute for the Zocor, I would suggest you ask your doctor about trying niacin. Like I said earlier, my father stopped taking Zocor two months ago(40mg), and he is now trying a form of niacin called inositol hexanicotinate, beginning at 1500mg/day. This form of niacin has been used successfully in Europe for over 30 years to treat high cholesterol. It is said to be safer and much better tolerated than regular niacin. So far my father has experienced absolutely no side effects whatsoever. We'll see how everything looks in November when he goes for his next blood test. Good luck to you. Gooba 08-24-2002, 03:18 PM A word of caution.Niacin can help, but DO NOT take it without consulting your Dr,FIRST. Taking such a high dose or ANY natural product without consulting your Dr could have serious side effects especially if you are taking other medications or have any other problems. Grannynash 09-02-2002, 06:50 PM Thanks for your post. I have been on Tricor for about 2 years and in the last 6 months I have been having leg pain in the lower part from my knees down mostly. My dr says it's because things are going "south"! This surprised me because she is usually really on top of everything. I still think it has a lot to do with them medication...... deeson 09-03-2002, 04:25 AM Hi,Be very carefully with cholesterol medicine.Between liptor and zocor been on them almost 7 years. If my legs got any weaker I'd would of needed a wheel chair. vipergg22 09-03-2002, 08:27 PM Great stuff huh , lowers your cholesterol but it makes it so you can barely walk , this is living ??? JB 09-06-2002, 12:35 PM Hi After weeks of being too busy to check out this board, I checked in and found some people still experiencing what for me was a very frustrating thing. I, also, was on Zocor with the same leg weakness results. Then went on Lipitor with even worse syptoms, then Niacin which didn't help the numbers, and lastly on Pravachol. The latter I began taking at 20 mg. for 3 days and skipping 3, then 4 days a week for several months, now up to 5 days a week for several weeks. So far, no leg weakness or pain of any kind.!!!!!!! I've been taking this for over 2 years and have had literally no side effects. The only thing I did experience was a slight weakness the first week after I would increase the dosage. So I'm wondering if the answer to all of this business is as simple as introducing these drugs SLOWLY and GRADUALLY instead of all at once. They are all so powerful and we know they work well, but about kill us off in the meantime. (ha) A PA actually advised this dosage treatment. Will see what happens. Good Luck to all of us!!!!!!!! Moibon 09-11-2002, 11:26 AM anyone have leg muscle tenderness with Tricor? Feels like bruises but no bruise of course. tender to the touch...also legs get tired quickly. ------------------ Brenda |
