My dad suffers from non-hodgkins lymphoma. He has been doing one treatment or another for almost a year. He has just finished 5 weeks of radiation and we are waiting to get the PET Scan in a few weeks. The problem we are now facing is the pain med dilaudid. He has been on this for at least 7-8 months. He is not having any pain where the cancer mass was or is and he has been taking 3 of the 2mg dilaudid every 4-6 hours. We have just cut him back to 2 pills every 4-6 hours. He seems completely dependent on these and is out of it most of the time. We don't know for sure if he is taking to many pills of if it is the disease. He wants to sleep all the time, won't eat much. can't focus and complete a thought. He is so weak. Please give me some advice on how to safely wean him from this med.

I would have to say that is up to his doctors. Please do not stop giving him his meds that the doctors feel he needs. Discuss this with his medical proffessionals!!!
