Lately, the past two weeks, I've been getting a little blood on the toilet paper, just a little pinkish or slightly red. But not everyday.

I've actually had it before, maybe a couple years ago, and a few random times in the past couple years.

A lot recently I've also been getting a bloated feeling in the afternoon. I'm your typical 16 year old...

Also I'm not sure if this is relevent, but I had pain in my side and went to the doctor thinking I had a UTI, but he thought otherwise because I'd had symptoms for about two months. He did think I may have had one, but that something else was also going on. He had me tested for chlamydia and the results came back negative last week, and I haven't been back since.

Any ideas?

Hey there,

It is really scary when you see blood in your stool, I've seen a bit of it in mine over the years. What colour is the blood? Do you have pain in your rectum/anus when you pass harder stools? Do you have pain there at any other times?

If the blood is a really bright red and accompanied by pain, it is quite likely to be something innocent, like a haemorrhoid or anal fissure. I had an anal fissure a few years ago, and it was scary and painful but nothing to worry about.

Even so, you should still go and see your family doctor if you can, to get peace of mind and get some treatment for whatever it turns out to be.
