Hi all,
Feeling a bit under the weather. Got a bit of a sunburn on my head and legs last Sunday. Missed work on Monday then I tried to cut my backyard on Tuesday (I have a rather large lot, 100'x 215' and the back is at least 2/3 of the whole) with a push mower. I have since left work early twice and am seriously considering leaving early again today. Thank God my employer is very understanding. Oh ya,I also moved some of my fiancees' boxes into my garage later Tuesday evening.

My legs feel like someone filled them with lead and my balance is WAY off. I could lay down right now and sleep, and it's not even noon yet. AARRGGH. I guess what I want some advice for is, how long do these type of symptoms last, and should I wait for a bit more before contactin a doctor?

Thanks for listening to me vent,
Neil

Neil, you have overdone it and not only overdone but in the heat no less. Your now paying for it.

It could take awhile before you re-cooperate, it just depends on your body. I can't do what you did or I pay for at least 2 weeks (or more) but I have also gone into a full blown exacerbation under those circumstances.

How long before you call your neuro? That depends on you and what you may or may not be willing to do. Your body could simply need more time for rest or you could be headed for an exacerbation.

If your having an exacerbation your only option is steroids - if your neuro offers them you can choose to use them or not.

What Snoopy said. :)

I do not go into a full-blown exacerbation from over-doing things, or from heat. I can go into a exacerbation from infections (and an increase in body temp due to infection), but not from external heat sources.

Are you sure you do not have an infection of some sort; tooth? bladder? sinuses?

If you are absolutely sure you don't . . .

Over-heating can cause a psuedo exacerbation for me, which means my body reacts with MS-symptoms . . . but those symptoms let up when I rest and remove the trigger (like heat, stress, over-doing things, etc.). If you rest up and DO NOTHING for a few days, theoretically the symptoms should let up.

If, after a few days of rest, you are still not doing well . . . it may very well be a exacerbation, defined as "new, or worsening of existing symptoms, lasting longer then 24 -48 hrs". As Snoopy said, steroids are an option . . . but I don't take them unless absolutely necessary as there are risks and side-effects.

Definitely overdid it! Get some R&R and take it easy for a few days! Keep yourself cool and hydrated!

Thank you all. It being Friday I think that I'll just spend the weekend resting up. If I don't feel better by Monday I will contact my neuro. Again, thanks for you input.

Hi Snoopy,
Much improved. Just needed more rest it seems. Had a very lazy weekend and that seemed to do the trick. Thanks for asking.

I'm glad to hear your doing better :)

Be careful when out in the heat. You can use cooling devices (cooling vest, wet/cold bandanas, ect.) when you will be out.

Also, if you will take a cool shower after getting heated it will help bring down body temp quickly and hopefully decrease the affects of being overheated.
