If you really want to get one of the best Neurologists, PHD in NYC i can help you with it.

He works at HSS, than has his office on Lexington Ave, Cornell Hospital and NYC hospitals; He also teaches all over the country.

His name is Dexter Sun. You will never regret seeing him.

All the best!

Roadworker, I know there are good MS specialists on the Island. I will try to come up with a name for you -- what part of LI are you from? You can also try calling the NMSS. I can give you names of doctors in NYC if you'd like but it sounds like you prefer to stay closer to home.

Moldova, I asked you in the other thread for the name of your doctor but I see it here. Just FYI, he is a neurologist, not an MS specialist. It doesn't mean that he cannot be helpful to you but I think that Roadworker needs an MS specialist at this point.

Personally, I think that anyone with MS or who strongly suspects MS should see an MS specialist but if MS is uncertain, a good general neurologist is an excellent place to start.

I also did some checking on Dexter Sun and didnt see anything at all about his MS experience...not to say he isnt a great doctor- he very well may be. Hwever, I would agree that at this point, for both of you, you should be seeing an MS Specialist...
Roadworker, Ill try to come up with a name of one too- but I like Beary's suggestion about calling for a referral from the NMSS because they are likely to provide with a host of names to choose from..
Another way to go, would be call your insurance company and ask them for participating MS docs...dont let them pan you off to a regular Neuro either...they arent qualified for making some of these decisions, UNLESS they have an incredibly large MS patient load...not many of them do. You asked about the differences...yes - they are both Neuros..however an MS specialist has years of additional training, usually a fellowship, in MS specific..they both rule out and diagnos MS, and they have seen/heard it all when it comes to the disease...because they are not treating Parkinsons, Migranes or any other Neurological diseases, they are completely focused on both the newest drugs, clinical trials and updates that happen almost weekly with MS!

If New Brunswick NJ is in your idea of a commuting distance (only about 20 minutes from the Outerbridge Crossing) I can give you my docs name, Dr. Jalbut at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital...off Easton Ave. Hes phenomenal.

Mike, unfortunately due to posting policy, we cant tell you how to get ahold of them or where- but I think its safe to tell you what an abreviation stands for...National Multiple Scerlosis Society.

Good luck-
Nikki
